The Longbottom's were permanent residents of Janus Thickey Ward at St. Mungo's. Although neither of them was aware of Lily's presence, she held their hands and talked about Harry and Neville. When they left, Lily was in tears. "It isn't fair that I got a second chance, but they didn't. Isn't there anything that can be done for them?"
Severus shook his head. "Healers know even less about the brain than Muggle doctors do. In fact I think Muggle doctors know considerably more."
"Isn't there any potion that could help them?"
Again Severus shook his head. "There has not been one invented yet, I am afraid."
"Couldn't you invent one, Sev? You're brilliant at Potions and you're a Medi-Wizard besides that," Lily pleaded.
"I do not know, but I will research it and see if there is anything that can help," Severus replied.
"Thanks, Sev,"
The Christmas holidays finally came and the students were milling around in the Entrance Hall waiting for the carriages that would take them to the Hogsmeade Station to catch the Express. The heads of house rode down with the students to make sure they all got safely on the train.
Harry said goodbye to all his friends the night before and they had exchanged gifts. He was waiting with his mum for his dad to come back from Hogsmeade so they could floo to Witches Moon. He went and checked his trunk again to make sure he'd packed everything he wanted to take with him.
Severus returned to his quarters. "Are we ready?" He had sent all his presents for Harry and Lily on ahead to Witches Moon.
"We are," Harry said with a grin. He'd sent Hedwig on ahead after breakfast and his dad had summoned an elf named, Matius to take Keb's and Isis' terrarium to Witches Moon. For some reason the elves were able to floo to and from there, but wizards and witches couldn't.
Severus grinned in return, shrank their luggage and put it in his pocket. They stepped into the floo and he threw down the floo powder and said, "Dragon's Tale!"
Severus and Lily stepped gracefully out of the fireplace at the Inn while Harry once again slid out on his bum. He got up, brushing off the back of his jeans. "I just can't seem to get the hang of flooing. Sometimes I land on my feet, but most times I end up sliding out on my bum," he complained.
"Well, you're growing right now and sometimes that affects your coordination when flooing," Severus explained.
"It's also a matter of the more you do it, the easier it becomes," Lily added.
Severus led them outside. "I will need to apparate you the rest of the way. I will take Harry first and unlock the gate and the entrance way and then I will come back for you."
Lily nodded and replied, "That's fine, Sev."
Severus took Harry arm and apparated him to the front gate that Harry knew was there even though it looked as if they were standing out in the middle of a Moor. It was cold and the wind was blowing. Severus took the moonstone pendant from around his neck and unlocked the gate and then escorted Harry inside and unlocked the double door entrance. "Go ahead inside. Tita should be waiting."
"Okay, Dad." Harry opened the door and went inside. He heard a sharp crack as Severus disapparated to the Dragon's Tale.
"Hello, Master Harry. Come along; Tita has snacks and hot Christmas Wassail waiting in the living room."
Harry followed Tita into the living room where there was a fire burning in the fireplace and a at least an eight-foot high Christmas tree decorated with all kinds of ornaments, bows, garland and fairy lights. The mantle of the fireplace was covered with a pine garland and had two large candle sticks at each end that smell like cinnamon. The room was warm despite a high ceiling and long windows that were magically sealed to keep out the cold and had heavy drapes over them.
Harry heard voices in the foyer and knew his dad and mum had arrived. He went out to greet them.
"Oh Sev!" Lily exclaimed. "This house is so beautiful! Potter Manor doesn't even come close!"
Harry grinned. "The first time I was here I thought that Aunt Petunia's entire house could fit in the foyer."
"We will get you settled in your rooms and then we can have at the snacks Tita has made," Severus suggested. "Tita?"
"Yes, Mr. Severus?"
"Will you pleases take Miss Lily and Mr. Harry to their rooms?" He took their trunks out of his pocket and enlarged them.
"If you will follow Tita," she said to Lily and Harry.
Lily took out her wand, cast a feather-light charm on hers and Harry's trunks and floated them up the stairs, following Tita and Harry.
Severus followed Lily up the stairs to the master suite. "The elves will unpack your trunks for you so I will be downstairs in the living room when you come back down."
Severus freshened up, changed into jeans, a jumper, and trainers and then went back downstairs. He would need to start brewing the Familia Sanguis potion first thing in the morning after breakfast and he did a quick check in his lab to make sure he had all the ingredients for it.
Lily and Harry were already sitting it the living room eating the small sandwiches and drinking the hot Wassail when he came back in. "Where did you go, Dad?"
"I was making sure I have all the ingredients for the Familia Sanguis potion and I do. I will start brewing it tomorrow morning."
"Can I help you?" Harry asked.
"Yes, you may. Lily can help me chop and dice the ingredients and you may stir."
"Great!" Harry said. Brewing with his dad was one of his favorite pastimes.
Severus took a plate and placed a couple of sandwiches on it and took a cup and poured a dipperful of the hot Wassail into it. He sat down in the recliner by the couch where Harry and Lily were seated.
