He paused, locking eyes with her.
"I want to be Aurora's boyfriend."
Gasps spread through the classroom like wildfire.
"I'm following her," he continued, his voice steady, "because I want to be by her side. And if she lets me, I'll spend the rest of my life with her."
Diana's jaw dropped.
"And for the record," Spencer went on, "you were always just a friend to me. I never flirted with you. Never touched you. I never once led you on."
Diana's face twisted. "You—You're lying! We were close!"
"Close?" Spencer chuckled bitterly.
"Diana, don't push it. Keep playing this game and I won't hesitate to expose your little secret."
Silence.
Her face drained of color. "Y-You wouldn't."
Spencer smiled coldly. "Try me."
Aurora blinked, surprised. Secret? What was he talking about?
"Oh—and one more thing," Spencer added lightly, turning to the class.
"Aurora isn't just some random girl. She's my childhood sweetheart."
Another wave of murmurs rolled through the class.
