Chapter 178 - Chapter 177: Heading to the Spider Society

It was a long, transparent tunnel of unknown length, but only a little over two meters wide. However, Peter was certain it wasn't made of glass.

Nor was it any kind of advanced technology.

Rather, it was something far more mysterious.

He could sense a power within it, something akin to magic.

Then, he recalled what Spider-Man 2099 had said earlier—his base was built upon an understanding of the Web of Life and Destiny.

In other words, these parallel universe pathways were most likely created by temporarily borrowing the "web strands" of the Web of Life and Destiny that connected different universes.

Literally following the web to travel.

Alright, alright, now that's a true spider move.

Peter's expression turned somewhat strange.

Spider-Man 2099, however, had no idea his companion's thoughts were jumping all over the place.

To show that everything was fine, he stepped into the tunnel first and gradually picked up speed along it, moving like a miniature Thomas the Tank Engine.

"Relax, buddy, it's totally safe," Superior Spider-Man patted Peter on the shoulder from behind, giving him an encouraging look.

Peter: …

He, too, took a step into the tunnel.

"Damn, this tunnel doesn't feel as smooth as a quantum tunnel," Peter complained as he flew through the web-strand passage.

There was no wind resistance in this tunnel—actually, there wasn't even any air. In fact, breathing wasn't necessary here.

As for how it worked, it probably had something to do with the magic of the Web of Life and Destiny. Either way, Peter couldn't figure it out yet.

The speed of travel was incredibly fast, even faster than a space shuttle, with dazzling auroras flashing all around.

Yet, strangely enough, there was no sensation of overload or excessive force.

Curious about the mechanics?

Sorry, no clue.

Don't ask. If you must, just chalk it up to the Web of Life and Destiny's effects.

But honestly, the experience wasn't as comfortable as when Peter had traveled through Pym's quantum tunnel back in Earth-199999 (the Marvel Cinematic Universe).

The quantum tunnel felt like constant compression and expansion, while this just felt like an endless thrust forward.

Boom!

After who knows how long, a loud boom echoed in his ears, and Peter finally felt solid ground beneath his feet—well, if the ceiling counted as "ground."

To be honest, he couldn't quite understand why Spider-Man 2099 had flipped the entrance upside down.

Was it to make inexperienced Spiders stumble and land flat on their backs the moment they arrived?

How evil.

Peter glanced at Spider-Man 2099, who was waiting for him, and secretly thought to himself.

Spider-Man 2099 gestured in a certain direction.

Peter nodded, following behind while observing his surroundings as they walked forward.

Despite his earlier complaints, he had to admit—the Spider Society's headquarters was far grander than his own Interdimensional Task Force base.

Perhaps it was because this place was set in a "2099 future world." The architectural design here exuded a strong sci-fi aesthetic.

In contrast, the Interdimensional Task Force was more of a fusion between science and mysticism.

Each had its own strengths.

The number of Spider-People gathered within the Spider Society was also quite significant.

Even more than at the Interdimensional Task Force.

However, Peter noticed that most of the people here remained in their suits at all times, seemingly unwilling to reveal their true faces.

Even though they were all Spiders, just like him.

This wasn't the case at the Interdimensional Task Force.

At the main base of the Task Force, many members were in a relaxed state of mind—sure, they often arrived in costume, but they would take off their masks.

That led to amusing situations, like multiple Peter Parkers sitting around chatting, or several Peter Parkers drinking together.

It was quite a sight.

From this perspective, the atmosphere of the Interdimensional Task Force seems to be more relaxed.

However, since the Spider Society belongs to Spider-Man 2099, Peter shouldn't interfere or comment on these matters.

Spider-Man 2099 somehow got his hands on a hovering vehicle, and he, Peter, and Super Spider-Man all got on board.

The speed of this hovercar was comparable to that of a small jet, moving at an incredible pace.

Within minutes, they arrived in front of a building.

The building had an even more pronounced sci-fi aesthetic, filled with sharp metallic lines.

Spider-Man 2099 introduced it: "This is the headquarters of the Spider Society, and also the location of the Web of Life and Destiny."

"Wow, I've never been here before. This time, I really owe it to you," Super Spider-Man said, leaning in close to Peter with a familiar smile.

Spider-Man 2099 was speechless at this thick-skinned guy, but he didn't chase him away.

He also noticed that Peter seemed to have quite a favorable impression of Super Spider-Man.

Unfortunately, he had no idea that Peter was actually trying to steal his position. If he did, who knows if he'd still be acting this way?

After Spider-Man 2099 performed a series of operations at the entrance, a massive spider emblem appeared on the door.

A beam of light shot out from the emblem, illuminating the ground.

Spider-Man 2099 was the first to step forward, standing within the light circle.

Seeing this, Peter and Super Spider-Man quickly followed suit.

Swish!

With a flash of light, the three of them vanished from their original spot.

In the next moment, they had already arrived inside the building.

The surroundings were neither as luxurious as one might expect nor filled with advanced sci-fi elements. Instead, it was pitch black, resembling a starry sky.

However, at the very center of the room sat a single chair.

Behind the chair was a massive glowing web, with every silk thread extending in all directions.

Spider-Man 2099 introduced it: "This is the Web of Life and Destiny. It's a device I created based on the Great Web. By sitting in that chair and wearing the sensory helmet, one can temporarily perceive the existence of the Great Web and gain information about the multiverse."

After saying this, he took the initiative to step forward, seemingly intending to demonstrate how it worked to Peter.

However, Peter moved first, walking ahead of him.

Spider-Man 2099 was momentarily stunned and stopped in his tracks.

He watched as Peter slowly approached the chair, and for the first time, the corners of his usually cold and stern lips curled into a faint smile of anticipation.

He hoped that another Master Weaver would emerge in this multiverse—someone who could break the predetermined fates of each universe, allowing them to develop freely with endless possibilities.

Instead of what was happening now—where even the slightest deviation in development could lead to the destruction of an entire universe.

Yes.

Even without external interference, the inherent unpredictability of a universe's development meant that unexpected events during its evolution could still damage the Web's nodes, ultimately leading to that universe's collapse.

There was already an example of this.

The Earth-120703B universe!

At any given moment, one or even multiple "Earth-120703B" universes could be heading toward destruction!

But now, their savior had appeared!
