Chapter 49 - I Wanted To Burn

MORANA'S POINT OF VIEW

The moment I drove out of that cursed building, I felt lightheaded, my hands gripping the steering wheel so tightly my knuckles turned white. My heart was racing, pounding so hard against my ribcage that I could hear it in my ears. 

I had done it. 

I had finally done it. 

I had cut the last thread holding me to Davian. 

I should feel liberated. I should feel powerful. But instead, there was a deep, suffocating ache in my chest, one I couldn't shake off no matter how hard I tried.

I slammed my foot on the brake, the tires screeching as the car came to a sudden stop right in the middle of the deserted road. The streetlights flickered dimly, casting eerie shadows on the cracked pavement. The city was alive in the distance, but here, it was just me, my car, and the wreckage of my emotions. 

My fingers trembled as I reached up and wiped at the hot tears streaming down my face. 

"Damn it," I muttered, slamming my fists against the steering wheel.
