Nikolai's Point of View
The office was quiet... Too quiet. The only sounds were the soft ticking of the clock on the wall and the occasional rustling of paper as I flipped through the documents on my desk.
The city outside my window was still alive, lights twinkling, cars honking, people moving.
But in here? It was just me. Alone with thoughts I tried to drown in work.
I took a sip from the glass of whiskey beside me, the rich burn sliding down my throat, but it did nothing to ease the tension coiled inside me.
Then, my phone buzzed.
I glanced at the screen.
Leon.
My brows furrowed. Leon never called unless it was something important.
I let it ring twice before picking up.
"Talk," I said, leaning back in my chair.
"You're not even going to say hello?" Leon's voice was laced with amusement.
"I don't do small talk."
Leon chuckled. "Fair enough. I have an update on the case you gave me."
I frowned. "Which one?"
