Chapter 87 - Chasing the Diablo Part 2

The documenter's eyes slowly open, and he finds himself face to face with the Diablo himself. "Hey, they let you into heaven, too?"

Cordayl smirks, "Maybe one day." He stands up and walks to Tony, who has the camera right in his face. "You good big man?"

The camera tilts up and down as a yes. "Good. Stay off of the mountain. It's not safe for even the best of hikers," Cordayl warns, walking away to continue his trek back home.

The two filmmaker's jaws are dropped, but they quickly jump to their feet and catch up to Cordayl.

"Diablo, wait!" the documenter shouts, catching up.

"Sorry man, no time for interviews." Cordayl continues walking.

"We're two filmmakers who have made a name and career by following you. Perhaps you might have seen some of our clips on the world news broadcasting channel?"

"Don't watch much TV," Cordayl states.

"Well, regardless, we have been following you ever since you reappeared in Bodmon Town and fought Gnarly. We're actually from that town!" The documenter happily states.

"Is that so?" Cordayl says uninterested.

"It is. Anyway, we had to take a little break due to some business mess, but we felt such an obligation to our fans that we decided to come and find you ourselves."

"You're not looking for a fight, are you?" Cordayl asks, cutting his eyes in their direction.

"Heaven and hell no! We're merely observers, but as a thank you for saving us just now, I would like to redirect the narrative we haven't created, but certainly haven't fought, about you being the supremely evil Diablo."

"I prefer Cordayl."Cordayl tells him.

"Brilliant! By using your birth name, we will force the audience to view you as a person of complication and not just a dev-"

"I'll pass. I don't really care what people think about me. But you said a news station has been reporting about me?"

"Yes, the world news broadcasting channel actually pays us quite well for the videos we record. Even though they end up clipping all of them." The documenter states, a little salty.

"Which city is that located in?" Cordayl ask.

'It's on the edge of Cortezia. Why?".

"Just figured I might as well kill two birds with one stone," Cordayl says, changing his direction.

The filmmakers continue to follow Cordayl. After a few seconds of silence, the documenter asks, "So, will you let us film you? Up close this time?"

"It's a free world. As long as you don't bother me, do as you please," Cordayl says, continuing his walk.

The documenters cheer in glee. "Alright, Tony! This is the moment we never even fathomed as possible. Get ready, chasers, as we are about to give you the documentary of the century. The Diab- I mean Cordayl! Live and up close."

Cordayl pushes Tony off of him, re-establishing personal space. "Not that close, Tony, damn."

The newly formed trio travels through various terrains and territories. The filmmakers get an up-close first-person view of Cordayl having to defeat a large group of bandits before he can continue his journey to the broadcasting channel.

"Now enjoying the spoils of victory, Cordayl rummages through the bandit's gear to claim their possessions as his. This must be how Cordayl affords his constant traveling." The documenter states, watching Cordayl dump all the bandit's luggage into one pile.

"If you're running low on supplies, now is the time to stock up," Cordayl says, grabbing just a water bottle.

"That's all you're taking?" The documenter asks.

"All I need. I tend to fight better on an empty stomach." Cordayl says, gulping down the water and picking up another for the trip.

Tony takes his eyes off Cordayl to see what interests him in the pile. Finding a few items, he grabs them and continues his coverage of Cordayl.

As the sun goes down, Cordayl decides to make camp. "This isn't for me, it's for y'all. I would feel slightly responsible if I left you two behind and y'all got mugged or eaten." Cordayl states.

Activating his gravity control, Cordayl applies a slight pressure where he stands and pushes the invisible force out to sweep away all the brush around them for a clean campsite. Satisfied, Cordayl moves to one side of the field, letting them know the rest of the night is on them.

"Well, chasers, we're no strangers to camping. Let's set up and get some grub."

The trio is chilling on the campsite. Tony zooms in on Cordayl, floating in the air, meditating.

Cordayl suddenly opens his eyes, staring straight into the camera, making Tony damn near fumble the camera.

"This feels like the calm before the storm. We know Cordayl is heading to the broadcasting channel, but that is merely a pit stop. What is his true destination?" The documenter asks.

"So Cordayl, where is it that you are going?"

"I'm going to give the world what it finally wants," Cordayl states casually

"And what does the world want from you?"

"You'll find out soon enough."

"Hmm, so what is the situation with you and Yesseia? At first, we thought she was your hostage, but the dynamic between y'all seemed a lot more casual."

"Now that you mention that," Cordayl's feet touch the ground, and suddenly, the camera is snatched out of Tony's hand, and the footage is cut.

"Please don't break it!" The documenter cries. "That footage is priceless!"

"Worth more than your life?" Cordayl asks in a cold tone.

"Almost priceless," Tony corrects himself.

"I won't break it on the condition that you erase all the footage with Yesseia in it." Cordayl tells them.

"Done! I promise. Yesseia is already famous, and she has tons of footage and interviews. We only care about documenting you. Tony, erase any footage with her in it now." The documenter directs.

Cordayl stands behind Tony and makes sure that all the footage of her is being erased. "She's let herself get a little big in her absence," Tony mentions.

"Yeahhh! I keep all of my hostages well fed." Cordayl nervously mentions to try and keep her being pregnant a secret.

"Done." Tony says, showing Cordayl.

"And there is no way to retrieve it."

"Not with this older tech. For the style of picture, we give up the technical advances of updated cameras," Tony explains. "Once it's deleted, it's deleted," Tony assures him.

"Cool. Sorry, I got so aggressive. I just don't want her to be involved after everything happens." Cordayl explains, going back to meditate some more. "You two should rest up. I don't plan on stopping again."

"Very well. Alright, chasers. Get some zzz's. We'll pick this journey up again in the morning." The documenter winks at the camera before Tony shuts it off.

"What's up, chasers! As you can see, we are now in the city of Cortezia. Tony slept so well that he forgot how to tell when the camera was on and when it was actually recording, " the documenter scolds.

"While offline, we enjoyed a beautiful walk and conversation with Cordayl that you all will have to take our word for as insanely insightful." The documenter throws more shade.

"Dude, how many times do I have to say my bad?" Tony ask.

"At least 11 more times. Anyway, we were able to stop at a hardware store for a few and grab some tools to fix up the drone, so hopefully, we can get you guys 2 POVs as we continue to film Cordayl. We're heading to the World News Broadcasting channel now." The documenter explains as they continue to follow Cordayl.

The filmmakers capture the different reactions Cordayl receives in their city. It was uncomfortably familiar for the filmmakers to watch what they thought was the typical reaction upon seeing Cordayl: people running and hiding to stay away from him versus the kind, welcoming tones he got from the village they first saw him in.

Cordayl doesn't seem to care or notice as he cooly walks to the tall building in the city's center.

The scene cuts to inside the newsroom. "And in breaking news, it seems that the Diablo has invaded the city, causing massive panic as hundreds of people run for their lives—"The two news anchors turn their heads in fear as the doors to their studio burst open, and in comes Cordayl.

Everyone in the room is dead silent as they watch Cordayl walk in. "Tony, you mind working the big camera for me?" Cordayl ask.

"No problem," Tony says, handing the handheld camera to the documenter and grabbing the studio camera with no objection from any of the jaw-dropping staff.

"Citizens of the world. I am Cordayl, the last warrior of the Melatonin tribe. Many, if not all, know me as the Diablo. It's a title that I have learned to ignore as that isn't how I see myself. Just misunderstood." Cordayl falls silent.

"But today, I embrace it. I have accepted that you will always hate me, and I've come to see that the only way I will know peace once and for all is by fully embracing it. So, I challenge any and everyone who is dumb enough to fight me to an all-out war.

"I'll accept any fighter, and I plan to take no hostages. If defeating me will fulfill any test or goal you have in mind, then come see me and live to see your dreams come true, or die too late to realize your mistake. In one week, I will be in the Youtound Kingdom, ready to face the world. Let's end this where it all started." Cordayl states, walking out of the newsroom.

The two documenters catch up to Cordayl, just as amazed as everyone in the room. "Cordayl, you really plan to take on the entire world by yourself?"

"Why do you sound surprised? I've been doing it for a while now. At least this way, I can beat everyone at once and hopefully be done with it." Cordayl explains.

As they walk out of the building, Cordayl is met outside by the fighters and warriors in the city. All of them have a look on their faces as if they aren't trying to wait a week to take their glory.

Cordayl stands there alone, not backing down an inch.

"I don't need a week. I'm ready to kill you right now." The biggest warrior states with his chest out.

Cordayl mugs him and drops a burden of weight on the guy's shoulders.

Turning around, Cordayl turns to the filmmakers, "Well, fellas, hope you guys got some good footage. I leave now to prepare for the battle. Best of luck to both of you." Cordayl smirks.

Calmly, Cordayl walks up to Warrior, sweating tremendously, fighting to keep his face dirt-free. Seeing their best fighter fall to his knees so quickly, the rest of the crowd is very, very hesitant to take their chances against Cordayl.

Kneeling, Cordayl tells the fighter. "Train hard. I'll see you in 7 days."

"As we watched him walk away, I had a brief internal conflict with what I saw vs what I believed. Who I thought was evil incarnated, I saw was actually a normal guy who just lived life. Who I believed was the most hated man on earth, I saw being embraced by strangers as if he were a neighbor. An assumed criminal, I saw only take what was necessary. And a believed murderer, I saw protect two people who have shamelessly invaded his privacy for profit.

"This man, who the world deemed the enemy, made me question if it was a justified label. Have we wrongly focused all of our hatred on a man who only wanted to live peacefully away from those who cursed him? Have we unknowingly poked a dragon we mistook for a bear?

"What bothers me most about all of this is the final challenge Cordayl gave. It wasn't the audacity or the insanity of one man trying to take on the world. It was the fact that I questioned who would come out victorious. Stay tuned, chasers, as we plan to find out the answer for you." The documenter concludes his episode.
