Tor stood before me, close enough that I could feel his warmth, close enough that I could see the way the moonlight softened the sharp angles of his face. He looked at me like he was trying to memorize me, as if he could somehow hold onto this moment, stretch it into forever. But forever wasn't ours to have. Not when the mountain called my name.
His hands found my waist first, hesitant, like he was afraid I'd disappear the moment he touched me. But I didn't move away. I couldn't. Instead, I reached for him, gripping his jacket as if that would be enough to keep me here. To keep us here.
"I don't want to let you go," he whispered, his voice raw, breaking at the edges.
I swallowed hard, my throat tight. "Then don't."
But we both knew it wasn't that simple.
