However, Nancy was not like them. She looked at Tony with an impatient expression. In a firm yet professional tone, Nancy said, "Mr. Stark, please do not disturb our work."
Those words were simple but sharp enough to cut Tony's ego for a moment. A few seconds of silence passed before Tony smiled again, as if the rejection was just a passing breeze for him.
Meanwhile, Tony's bodyguards kept a safe distance, blocking anyone who tried to get too close. Their attitude clearly showed that they did not care about the subtle protests from the officers. However, Nancy stood her ground, her gaze filled with determination, signaling that she would not be intimidated by the presence of the tycoon.
"I like people who are dedicated to their work, especially if the woman is as beautiful as you." Tony Stark remained calm, touching his glasses in his signature style. "Oh, Miss Nancy McKenna... an extraordinary woman. Joined the Army after high school, served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The last three years in the New York Police Department as a second-grade detective. Fifteen field missions, rich urban combat experience..."
Tony paused for a moment, flashing a confident smile. "I would value your ability to work at Stark Group. The position? Life assistant. Annual salary of $500,000. What do you think?"
Nancy's face immediately hardened, cold as ice. "Mr. Stark, you are invading my privacy!"
For Nancy, the fact that Tony knew her past was enough to make her extremely angry. Those experiences were something Nancy rarely shared, even with the closest people she knew. But Tony Stark, with his characteristic arrogance, laid it all bare in one casual sentence.
Sidney, standing beside him, furrowed his brow in anger. "Mr. Stark, many people at the police station are interested in you. Perhaps I could invite you to the interrogation room for a cup of coffee?" Sidney said sharply.
Tony merely shrugged, casually spreading his arms. "Why are you so angry? I just want to recruit a life assistant. Of course, I need to find out details about my candidates. This is normal, isn't it?"
Tony's tone was so relaxed and arrogant that it made Nancy's blood boil. If there was one thing Nancy couldn't tolerate, it was someone like Tony Stark who felt the world was at his feet. Nancy's hands clenched, holding back the urge to do something unprofessional.
Tony, on the other hand, remained calm, seemingly unaware of the danger lurking.
However, before Nancy could say anything, a heavy, rumbling sound came from the distance. It sounded like a bomber flying low overhead. The noise was so loud it felt oppressive, causing everyone around to turn toward the source of the sound.
Tony raised an eyebrow, turning toward the noise. His lips moved, a small mumble escaping, "What kind of engine noise is this?"
As a mechanical genius and a world-class sports car enthusiast, Tony knew almost every engine data out there. But this sound... it was different. Tony didn't recognize its characteristics. And that made him even more intrigued.
Nancy and Sidney also turned, the tension in the air thickening. The sound grew closer, creating a feeling that something big was about to emerge.
"That person is coming!" Nancy and Sidney exchanged wary glances. They had encountered Brynhildr before, and the rumbling engine sound stirred their memories. But there was something different this time.
In the distance, a heavy black motorcycle appeared, like a storm bringing darkness with it. The dull yet deafening engine noise made the ground tremble, as if the vehicle was not just a means of transportation, but a threat.
"Not Brynhildr?" Nancy asked hesitantly, her brow furrowing. Sidney slowly shook his head, equally confused.
However, they didn't have much time to ponder. Within seconds, the motorcycle was in front of them. The vehicle came to a sudden stop, the front wheel kicking up a thin cloud of dust on the road.
From atop the motorcycle, a man dressed entirely in black dismounted. His voice was deep and cold, cutting through the air like a knife. "Where is that person?"
Nancy and Sidney were frozen. The man looked familiar, but something was different. Lance, the man they had met before, now appeared in a more elegant black suit and a mask covering almost his entire face, leaving only a pair of sharp, gleaming eyes visible. Even Lance's voice had changed, heavier and more mysterious.
"When we meet again, just call me... Mage," Lance said, his voice flowing with an aura of authority.
Nancy and Sidney exchanged glances. They were smart enough to understand the situation. Lance, or Mage, clearly did not want his identity revealed. Without asking further questions, they decided to go along with the game.
"Uh... Hello, Mr. Mage. Thank you for your assistance earlier," Sidney said awkwardly, trying to maintain professionalism.
Nancy, with a more assertive attitude, added, "The person you are looking for is here. Follow me." Nancy set aside her curiosity and worked hard not to show that she recognized the man. This situation required discretion, and Nancy knew better than to question Lance's identity in front of everyone.
In the midst of the conversation, an unwanted voice broke the tense atmosphere.
"Hey, you black-clad ninja!" Tony Stark, who had previously been ignored, stepped forward with a curious expression. Tony pointed at the magnificent black motorcycle. "You built that bike yourself, right? That's amazing! Give me a price; I'm very interested!"
Lance, or Mage, shot Tony a cold glance. Without answering, Lance turned to Nancy, ignoring Tony as if the man were just a passing breeze. Tony, unaccustomed to being ignored, irritably touched his mustache, muttering to himself, "Seriously, who is this guy? Doesn't he know who I am?"
Nancy almost laughed at the sight of Tony's frustrated expression, but she held back. The situation was too serious to involve Tony Stark's ego. "Follow me," Nancy said to Mage, leading the way while ignoring Tony, who continued to mumble.
However, the sky-high stock price of Stark Industries seemed to attract no one's attention.
