Meliza's POV
I didn't know how I survived dinner without choking on my food.
Even though I kept my head down and refused to glance in his direction, I felt his gaze on me. The weight of it, unwavering and deliberate, burned into my skin like a silent challenge. Every bite I took felt forced, as if the food itself carried the tension that thickened the air around us.
I tried to block him out, to focus on Ruby's cheerful chatter or Vince's occasional remarks, but none of it mattered. Not when he was sitting across from me, watching, waiting.
Then, Ethan spoke as if he had been holding back just long enough to lull me into a false sense of peace.
"So, you're finally in Ubec," he mused, his tone was too casual. "Your supposed wedding day with Elijah turned into a disaster. It must have been a real heartbreak, huh? He didn't reschedule your wedding; instead, he drove you away from his estate." He added.
His words hit like a punch to the gut.
