Meliza's POV
Relief washed over me as dinner finally came to an end. I had been counting down the minutes, pretending to engage in conversation while my mind focused on getting home. And away from the suffocating awareness of Ethan's presence.
I reached for my bag, already anticipating my bed's sweet, solitary comfort, when Ruby turned to me, her expression hesitant.
"Iza, I'm sorry, but Vince and I need to ride together. We're picking up his dad somewhere, and it's on the opposite side of the city."
I nodded in understanding, not thinking much of it. "That's fine; I'll just book a cab."
"I can drive her home." Ethan's voice cut through the conversation before I could even reach for my phone. I froze.
Ruby, as expected, beamed as if this was the best idea in the world. "Thank you, Ethan," she said, smiling at him like he had just done her a huge favor.
I blinked, barely masking my disbelief. Excuse me?
