Gretchen stiffened, her heart racing before she forced out a dry laugh.
"What do you mean? I just came straight from the kitchen where I heard them say Creep is here in the quarters."
The maid frowned and immediately shook her head in refusal.
"What? No. She's at the garden. She's been helping out there since 6 a.m. I heard the Luna practically had her and some other girls dragged out of bed. So… do you believe us now?"
Gretchen, who had straightened to her full height, had her attention on the two people behind her and didn't hear a word the maid said.
Distractedly, she questioned, "What?"
Thinking she was feigning annoyance, her colleague huffed in contempt.
"Deny it all you want, but you don't get dragged out of bed by the Luna so early in the morning unless she has something against you."
"You're sure she's at the garden?" Gretchen finally turned to her, getting ready to bolt when her colleague held her back, an inquisitive look in her eyes as her brows perked up.
