Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 The Invisible Man

Fushimi Roku briefly explained the intelligence he had gathered and then clarified:

"The statute of limitations for a murder case is generally fifteen years. Ishizuka Yoshio's daughter happened to have had an accident sixteen years ago. He is most likely seeking revenge for his daughter, which is why he sent the anonymous letter to Instructor Sakurai."

As he spoke, he unfolded each piece of paper, reading aloud: "Manslaughter," "Passionate Asphyxiation," "Gang Crime"...

"It all happened sixteen years ago. Who knows how his daughter died? We can only rely on luck to guess." said Fushimi Roku.

"Why would we guess this?"

Minamoto Tamako was a bit nervous. She had no idea how Fushimi came up with so many ways to die.

"It's of course for talking to Mr. Ishizuka," Fushimi Roku crumpled up all the paper notes into a ball and tossed it into the recycling bin. "If we can bluff the truth out of him, that would be the best outcome."

Minamoto Tamako came to her senses and asked, "But these are all just guesses, right? We have no evidence that Instructor Sakurai killed his daughter!"

"If we had evidence, would we be the ones investigating? That perverted woman would already be in jail, eating prison meals!"

Fushimi Roku remembered what happened at noon, feeling a pang of anger, and said, "Listen, interrogation doesn't need evidence. As long as you're suspected, you're the culprit. No evidence, no reason needed. In necessary situations, you can even fabricate evidence to pressure the suspect."

"Isn't fabricating evidence illegal?" Minamoto Tamako asked.

"As long as it's not submitted to the prosecution, it's not considered fabrication of evidence."

"Why?"

"Why do you need so many whys, do you want to adhere strictly to the rules, or do you want to uncover the truth of the crime?" Fushimi Roku said impatiently, "When you become a criminal police officer, with a hundred to two hundred cases a year, following the rules to investigate each one, even if you were split into two, you wouldn't finish it!"

"Oh, so you think I can become a criminal police officer?"

Minamoto Tamako was delighted. She felt she had been complimented.

Fushimi Roku thought to himself, is this the point? With your height not even reaching one meter sixty, even if you scored full marks on the written exam, you'd be eliminated in the physical test phase, right? To be honest, he always suspected Minamoto Tamako bribed the examiner to get admitted into the police academy...

"Ahem, that's not important," Fushimi Roku glanced at his watch. "It's getting late, we don't have much time left to talk, let's go."

Minamoto Tamako stood up. She initially thought about whether it would be inappropriate to go see the victim's family empty-handed, whether to bring some consolation gifts or souvenirs...

But she felt that if she said such things, Fushimi might look down on her. So she kept a stern face, said nothing, and followed closely behind Fushimi Roku, constantly cheering herself up in her heart.

"Come on, Minamoto Tamako, you can do it! Talking to the victim's family is also part of the investigation! The practical course taught conversation skills, don't be stage-frightened!"

...

Dusk settled, and the office grew quiet.

Ishizuka Yoshio was once again ignored by his colleagues.

According to protocol, the last colleague to leave after work had to lock the door.

Ishizuka Yoshio was still working in the office, but the other two colleagues locked the office door while chatting.

By the time Ishizuka Yoshio realized it, it was too late; he was locked inside the office.

This wasn't the first time it had happened. His colleagues weren't deliberately bullying him; they just completely overlooked him.

In response, Ishizuka Yoshio didn't protest.

He went to the management office, borrowed the office key, made a copy, so he wouldn't have to worry about being locked inside the office again.

Once he finished copying the last official document, he could leave work and rest...

Just then, there was a sudden knock on the door from outside.

"Sorry to disturb you, is Mr. Ishizuka here?"

Ishizuka Yoshio was slightly taken aback. He got up and opened the door, only to see a handsome young man standing outside.

After exchanging a few courteous words, the young man introduced himself as Fushimi Roku, a police academy cadet, hoping to ask for his help in transcribing a letter.

Ishizuka Yoshio hesitated for a moment; he wasn't good at refusing people, so he agreed.

As Fushimi Roku entered, Ishizuka Yoshio noticed a girl following behind him. Her movements were timid, but her eyes inadvertently revealed a chilling sharpness.

"Please have a seat," Ishizuka Yoshio sat down at his desk, "did you bring the letter for transcription?"

"Yes, I did."

Fushimi Roku took a piece of letter paper out of his pocket, unfolded it, and placed it on the desk.

Ishizuka Yoshio's expression suddenly changed.

The contents of the letter were exactly the same as the anonymous letter Instructor Sakurai had received. The only difference was that the handwriting was different, and the color was black.

"I would like to ask you to transcribe this letter," Fushimi Roku said. "Rest assured, it's just a prank. I'd like you to make it more menacing."

"This..."

Ishizuka Yoshio swallowed hard, trying to remain calm, "Alright."

Just as he picked up the pen, Fushimi Roku suddenly said, "Use your left hand."

"What?" Ishizuka Yoshio was taken aback.

"Please transcribe with your left hand," Fushimi Roku smirked, pointing at the red ink on the table, "using this bottle of red ink."

Ishizuka Yoshio remained silent for a while, then put down the pen, letting out a heavy sigh.

"Have you figured it out?" he asked.

"We know everything, including your daughter's death and what you plan to do next," Fushimi Roku made up a story on the spot. "But don't worry, we don't intend to expose you. On the contrary, we have respect for your revenge plan and wish to assist you."

Minamoto Tamako widened her eyes. She turned her head to look at Fushimi Roku, thinking to herself, this doesn't seem right?

The correct conversation flow should be 'Please trust the police, trust the law, they will surely bring you justice,' then Mr. Ishizuka should weep and say, 'I've waited too long for this day, please help me'... What do you mean 'we don't intend to expose you,' 'we want to assist you'? Wouldn't that make us accomplices?!

"Since you've figured everything out, you should know how my daughter died, right?" Ishizuka Yoshio asked.

"Hit and run," Fushimi Roku glanced at the top of his head and said. "Instructor Sakurai ran over your daughter, and you hold a grudge for that."

Ishizuka Yoshio's expression turned strange. He nodded and said, "Indeed, it is like that, but I don't have any revenge plan. I just wanted to scare her a bit."

Minamoto Tamako clenched her fists, feeling elated, thinking to herself, I actually guessed it right! I really am a detective genius! Saying there's no revenge plan must be a lie, right? Even I can see that...

"Please tell us the truth," Fushimi Roku leaned forward, staring into Ishizuka Yoshio's eyes.

The latter uncomfortably looked away and said, "Alright, actually, I plan to steal Sakurai Chizuru's diary. She has a habit of keeping a diary, and it must contain many shameful secrets..."

"And then what?"

"I plan to copy a page of the diary every day and secretly paste it on the bulletin board, making her the laughing stock of the police academy," Ishizuka Yoshio sighed, "that's all."
