Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Making the Challenger Feel at Home

The night is the best umbrella for the Dark Race.

By this point, nearly all the lurking Dark Clan nearby had been assembled.

This was no longer just the affair of the Werewolf Clan; it was a major event for the entire Dark World.

They all held the belief of facing death with resolve, determined to destroy the damned exhibit hall! To wash away their humiliation with the enemy's blood!

Of course, if they could conveniently take some holy artifacts with them as an aid, it would surely be the blessing of the Dark Race Emperor.

But regardless, this group of Dark Species with various motives had rarely achieved unity once.

On the Watchtower's side, in order to avoid civilian casualties, the exhibition hall had been built on a hilltop outside the town from the very start.

This barren hill stood alone, with no cover.

Although it wasn't as defensible as the Linsaint Watchtower camp, it had an expansive view.

Moreover, from the afternoon closure to nightfall, in just two prayer times, Lette had laid down numerous traps and self-researched Holy Light Arrays around the hillside.

Facing the multitude of Dark Species peering and coveting, Lette appeared composed and confident.

Kertes, the Knight Captain, stood beside him, feeling the ever-growing density of Dark Energy in the air, with a solemn expression.

This situation was a minor scene.

When he first joined the Disciplinary Black Knight, he had personally experienced the half-month Black Iron Chaos.

That involved many high-level Demons, fearlessly assaulting the prison gates.

Compared to those two weeks, there was indeed nothing to be too tense about.

However, to ensure the safety of the Watchtower camp and Tower Town, the guards and most of the Black Knights remained near the Linsaint Watchtower to form a defensive array.

On this side of the exhibit hall, besides him and Lette, there was only the female mage who came with the carriage.

"Your Highness, shall I call over two more Black Knights?"

"No, too many people might scare the enemy into not daring to attack."

Lette patted the Knight Captain's shoulder, "Relax, you just focus on protecting her later. Leave the rest to me."

Emily puffed her cheeks in slight displeasure, considering she was a Third-level Wind Mage herself. It seemed as if she had no self-defense ability at all.

But when she saw the pairs of glowing scarlet eyes at the bottom of the hill, her legs nearly gave way, almost collapsing.

Humans' fear of darkness is innate, traceable perhaps to ancient times.

The Dark Race, once humans' natural enemies, the apex predators, and rulers of the night, are an essential part of humans' fear of the night.

Even the well-trained Disciplinary Black Knights would have their hearts tightened upon seeing the countless scarlet points of light across the mountains and plains.

But clearly, Lette did not have those petty emotions.

He always believed in a saying from his hometown, all fears stem from insufficient firepower.

And this soon proved true.

Large numbers of Plague Rat Clan members surged towards the hillside under the whips and roars of the Werewolves.

But as soon as they took the first step onto the hillside, rows of Holy Light Arrays lit up consecutively, effortlessly annihilating them completely.

The surging Holy Light illuminated the hill, vaporizing each invading enemy.

"This is my self-created array, Prism Light. It compresses Holy Light into a beam, then continuously refracts it within the array, ultimately forming a dense strong light firepower net."

Lette enthusiastically introduced his masterpiece to the two, the Prism Light Array circling the hill like an impregnable barrier.

No matter how many Plague Rat Clan members charged, it remained unmoved.

"When the enemies hit, their flesh will be instantly sliced into countless small fragments, then completely turned to ash under the high temperature of the Prism Light.

So there's no need to worry about enemy bodies piling up, causing the array to fail.

How about it, isn't my consideration very thorough?"

The air was filled with the stench of charred flesh, and Emily pinched her nose, full of disdain.

"Do you just ponder over such things when you're free?"

The Knight Captain was more concerned with practical issues, "Your Highness, this array certainly consumes a lot of Holy Light!"

"No problem! Tonight's expenditure! It's all on the Holy Light Goddess!"

Kertes quickly prayed to the Goddess, pleading for her forgiveness for the disrespect. But he also understood that such an array could not be executed by many within the entire Church Court.

Thus, it had no conventional strategic value.

A pity, if it could be reduced and made more efficient, encircling the Judgement Court's Black Iron Prison, they wouldn't have to fear enemy raids anymore.

But for now, there's no worry about the enemies being able to charge up.

"By my calculations, it's about time."

Lette suddenly muttered, then with a big wave, shut down all the arrays of the first line of defense.

"Your Highness! What are you doing!"

"Huh? Luring the enemy deeper."

Lette shrugged naturally, "I ask you, if you're playing a game and can't pass the first level, would you still want to continue challenging it?

As a sufficiently unscrupulous game operator, you have to learn to offer a sweet treat, then reap a harvest.

Make the challengers feel a welcoming joy."

"Awooooo!!!!"

Seeing the first line of defense arrays go dark, the Dark Race rejoiced.

Although the losses were heavy, the outcome was promising.

They advanced immediately, continuing to attack the hill.

Lette pointed out the Dark Species below, laughing at Emily and the Knight Captain, "Look at them, how happy they are."

Emily gulped, not knowing how to respond.

As the Dark Clan advanced halfway up the hill, suddenly, a large amount of Holy Flame spurted from the mountain itself. The entire hillside instantly turned into a sea of fire.

The unfortunate vanguard was quickly enveloped by the white Holy Flame, becoming fuel. The originally dark sky was illuminated by the ubiquitous Holy Flame, as bright as daylight.

By then, the Pilgrims in the town were already awakened, seeing the blazing Holy Flame from afar, mistaking it for a divine miracle, and knelt to pray.

The Black Knights and guards could only do their best to maintain order.

The Dark Race army hastily retreated, staring at the towering wall of fire, momentarily clueless.

At this time, a powerful, half-transparent Witch Demon floated out from the crowd. He raised his Bone Wand, chanting arcane and complex magic spells.

Then, a large amount of slurry spewed forth, completely extinguishing the blazing Holy Flame.

Such a mighty scene immediately incited roaring cheers among the Dark Species. But the Knight Captain and Lette standing on the hilltop saw clearly that Lette had waved to shut down the array before the slurry surged downhill.

"What are you looking at? If I didn't shut it down, this bit of slurry couldn't have put it out. This is a specially crafted Holy Flame, inspired by the indestructible Death Flame in Death Spirit Spell, and the Soul Burning Flames in Hell Magic.

It requires both physical and soul extinguishing to be effective. Otherwise, they mutually ignite, preserving eternally."

The Knight Captain took a deep breath, his tone almost pleading, "Your Highness, regarding your reference to the Death Spirit Spell and Hell Magic, please don't spread it around.

The Judgement Court can't manage you, but at least leave us a way out, will you?"
