Cherreads

Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Careless, Didn’t Dodge!

The wheels turned slowly, and Lette looked at the familiar yet strange street scenery with mixed emotions in his heart.

Emily was full of wonder, after all, the Holy City, as the largest and most prosperous grand city in the world, had so many magnificent and peculiar things that dazzled the eye.

But as the carriage continued to move, the surroundings gradually quieted down.

Clearly, they had left the bustling area where tourists and pilgrims stopped and entered the true core region of the Holy City.

"Your Highness, we've arrived."

Finally, the carriage came to a slow stop. Lette led Emily out of the carriage, and before their eyes was a small estate.

"Is this... your residence?"

Emily seemed very shocked. Although she came from a remote small place and her family had fallen into decline, she was still of noble birth, and naturally understood what the estate before her meant.

If it were in her hometown, there were plenty of desolate hills and wilderness to build estates as large as one could wish!

But here, which could be said to be the most prestigious location in the Holy City, could no longer be described as worth its weight in gold.

Let alone an estate, just having a foothold here was not something worldly power and money could achieve.

Emily had always been vaguely unclear about how distinguished Lette's status was within the Holy Light Church. But seeing this estate, she immediately had a concept.

"Yes, this is my residence..."

"The architectural style is so curious, it seems out of place with the buildings around it. But there's a certain indescribable beauty to it!"

"Thank you for the compliment, it's the style of my hometown."

When he mentioned his hometown, there was a rare trace of melancholy in Lette's eyes.

"Come on, it's been three years since I came back, the yard might be a bit messy, please don't mind."

He reached out to unlock the array restriction on the door, the estate gate slowly opened, and everyone couldn't help but exclaim.

The estate was very tidy and clean, with blooming flowers in the flower beds, and fish swimming in the pond, not at all like a place where no one had lived for three years.

Emily looked around, and then said to Lette in a soft voice.

"It seems, someone has been thinking of you, often cleaning and organizing for you."

Lette didn't speak; he already knew from Taylor before he came that Joanna had been helping him manage the estate. But he didn't expect her to be so attentive.

"Let's go. Kaelster, greet the brothers and move all the luggage in.

Thank you all for running around these days, tonight I'll treat everyone to a meal! No one is allowed to leave, leaving means not giving me face!"

Kaelster and the others were naturally very happy: "Being able to dine with Your Highness is our honor! Brothers, help His Highness move everything inside!"

They carried the luggage and miscellaneous items along the stone path towards the small building, and Emily looked around as she walked.

"Lord Lette, that girl who manages your estate must really like you."

Lette rolled his eyes: "You understand again?"

"Appreciating gardening is a compulsory course for nobles! Furthermore, things infused with deep love and effort always seem so special and easy to distinguish.

As they say, time will reveal a person's heart. A moment of impulse versus long-term perseverance, the weight of love is also different oh.

Of course, if a man is deeply in love with you as well, just ignore what I said."

Lette snorted coldly, sizing up Emily: "Have you, from childhood to adulthood, ever been in love?"

Just a moment ago, Emily, who was so articulate, instantly got stuck, stammering and unable to speak, her pretty face flushed bright red.

"You haven't had any practical experience, and you come to point fingers? You dare to teach, I don't dare to listen."

"You you you! Hmph!"

Even though Lette said this, he couldn't help but feel a bit touched looking at the tidy, beautiful estate.

No matter what, he definitely should thank Joanna.

When they arrived at the small building, Lette, while reaching out to push open the ground floor entrance door, turned to instruct everyone.

"You can just put the things in the ground floor living room, we'll sort out the rest ourselves..."

However, when he turned back and saw his living room, he froze in place.

"Wow!!!! So beautiful!"

Emily, who followed behind him, along with a group of Black Knights, exclaimed in awe!

The living room was carpeted in red, with a flower arch in pink and white. Everywhere one looked, there were gold ornaments inlaid with red gemstones and holy silken drapery, along with the touches of red roses and the ubiquitous Holy Light Goddess statues.

This was no living room; it was clearly a standard Holy Sect style wedding room!

And the most extravagant kind at that!

The most astonishing thing was the large wedding portrait hanging on the wall opposite the entrance door! The bride in it wore a luxurious Holy Sect bridal gown, stunning beyond words.

Beside her, wearing the Holy Sect groom's wedding attire and smiling blissfully, was none other than Lette himself!

Bang!

Lette closed the door with a bang, one hand covering his face, the other supporting the door panel.

"What's going on, did I walk into the wrong door? Impossible, this is my house!

Could it be that I'm so tired from traveling that I'm hallucinating?"

Emily, covering her small mouth, blinked her big eyes: "You... you're already married?"

Lette was immediately furious: "Of course not! I'm a good youth who upholds the Four Lectures and Five Beauties, with a bright future, how could I get married young?

There must have been a problem somewhere... Right! It must be that I opened the door wrong!

Let me try again!"

Lette took a deep breath and forcefully pushed the door open again!

Unfortunately, the living room scenery remained unchanged! The top-class Holy Sect wedding setup, along with that perfectly matched large wedding portrait, just sat there quietly.

"That! Woman!"

The hint of emotion that just arose in Lette's heart instantly vanished into thin air.

"I underestimated her! When Taylor mentioned she was helping me manage the estate, I should have been alerted!

Damn, these three years of wandering life dulled my vigilance! Plus, her fake death news made me drop my guard completely!

I didn't expect her to leave me such a big surprise!"

"Oh? So she's the girl who's always deeply loved you."

Emily slowly entered the room, hands behind her back, looking at the wedding portrait. She'd always been confident about her appearance and figure, but at this moment she couldn't help but mutter softly to herself.

"Quite pretty, actually..."

Lette took a deep breath, and, expressionless, ordered the Black Knight Guard: "Put the things down here, then help me dismantle all these decorations."

Emily blocked Lette in front: "Why tear them down? They're so beautiful! Don't you know this is every Holy Sect girl's dream!"

"If I don't tear it down, should I keep it for weddings? Doesn't it annoy me watching it?"

Lette pointed at the staircase leading to the second floor: "Go, go, go, the second room on the south side of the landing is your place from now on; go check it out yourself.

Don't cause trouble here, I'm annoyed enough!"

With a reluctant look, Emily was shooed to the second floor, and the Black Knights quickly put down the luggage and started taking apart the wedding-related decorations.

Lette personally took down the large wedding picture.

Just when he was pondering whether to burn this portrait, Emily's scream suddenly came from upstairs.

"Ah!!!"
