Chapter 13 - Chapter 012: Surgery

Song Xiaojia stood beside Director Chen, her face filled with confusion. Her mind was muddled as she kept thinking about the situation at the scene. She knew that she wasn't the hero who killed the robber, but who did it then? Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in her head. Could it be him?

"Song Xiaojia, how did you come up with such a solution?"

"How many robbers were there at the scene..."

Facing the questions from the media reporters, Song Xiaojia was confused. Beside her, Hu Zhengwei chuckled and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, Song Xiaojia has just ended a fierce battle and is injured. Please don't hassle her anymore. In three days, we will hold a press conference and will make a detailed announcement about this robbery."

Under the escort of Hu Zhengwei and Director Chen, Song Xiaojia finally made her way out of the crowd.

Tang Yumeng returned home under the escort of her driver.

Public security officers continued to maintain order inside the bank, the sniper team had withdrawn, and the special forces had also left the scene. The armed police squad and the fire brigade orderly departed from the scene as well. Outside the bank, at every ten meters, armed police officers were stationed, maintaining a police line thirty meters away. Any attempt to get close was dissuaded.

......

After leaving the bank, Lin Chuan felt a burning pain in his lower abdomen. He held his abdomen and hurried toward Changlin Community.

"Brother Chuan." Suddenly, Zhou Kai stopped next to Lin Chuan in his Porsche.

"Is it you guys?" Lin Chuan was stunned and quickly climbed into the back seat, saying, "Let's go, back home."

"Are you hurt?" Zhou Kai was taken aback.

"How come you guys are here?" Lin Chuan asked curiously.

"We heard there was a robbery at Guangfa Building, we were about to go have a look, and didn't expect to bump into you!" Lu Dapao hurriedly said.

"Let's go back first, find a place, I'm injured here," Lin Chuan said urgently.

"Not going to the hospital?" Zhou Kai said anxiously.

"No need," Lin Chuan shook his head and said, "I can handle this kind of injury myself. Find a secluded place, buy some alcohol, gauze, medical thread, and a scalpel."

"My God, are you… are you planning to perform surgery on yourself?" Lu Dapao's face turned pale.

"A minor surgery, no worries!" Lin Chuan waved his hand.

This kind of surgery, Lin Chuan probably was even better than an average surgeon. At this moment, Zhou Kai quickly said, "I know a place."

Then, the car sped toward Changlin Community. The place Zhou Kai referred to was in Changlin Community, an old factory filled with old machinery. A huge lathe, too heavy to be moved, otherwise it would have been stolen and sold.

Although it was shabby inside, it was still fairly clean. Lin Chuan, due to excessive blood loss, looked a bit pale, but his spirit was still fairly good and his mind was very clear.

The tools bought along the way were all prepared.

"Go get me some boiling water," Lin Chuan instructed.

Zhou Kai and Lu Dapao immediately rushed out, Lin Chuan had already taken off his clothes. The shooter had used a pistol, and because of this, the bullet was stuck in the bone. If a semi-automatic rifle had been used, the bullet would have gone straight through, saving him from this pain.

Soon after, the two brought in a pot of boiling water.

"Chuanzi, the boiling water is here!" Zhou Kai anxiously said. This chubby guy, being meticulous, not only brought the hot water, but also brought a stainless steel basin, knowing Lin Chuan would use the hot water for disinfection: "I also brought a basin for you."

"Put it down." Lin Chuan replied.

Gingerly, they set down the hot water and the basin. Lin Chuan completely stripped off his clothes, revealing numerous wounds all over his body, knife wounds, bullet wounds… all of which were horrifying. The bullet lodged between his ribs caused him significant pain, making each movement excruciating.

After disinfecting the tools, Lin Chuan picked up the scalpel and cut into the wound, already saturated with dark, fresh blood. He then picked up a pair of tweezers, biting on a piece of gauze.

Hiss…

With a grit of his teeth and a firm pull, the bullet was extracted from deep within the bone. In that moment, Lin Chuan felt a wave of weakness overcome him. Zhou Kai and Lu Dapao, standing by, were shocked not only by the numerous wounds on Lin Chuan's body but also by the fact that he had just extracted the bullet without any anesthetic, a truly admirable feat. Lin Chuan's unyielding determination impressed them deeply, increasing their respect for him.

"Chuanzi, are you alright?" Zhou Kai asked anxiously.

"I'm fine." Lin Chuan let out a breath, then skillfully stitched up the wound. He made a preliminary judgment that the bullet had only damaged the muscle and ribs, without affecting the internal organs.

A total of three stitches were sewn, each making Zhou Kai's heart pound.

"Chuanzi, are you sure you won't go to the hospital?" Zhou Kai swallowed.

"No need." Lin Chuan dropped the needle and thread, saying, "I'm fine now."

In the basin beside him, the hot water had already been dyed red with blood, and the blood-stained scalpel and tweezers had been cleaned. A deformed bullet was carelessly tossed aside by Lin Chuan, as if everything he had just done was nothing more than routine.

"Brother Chuanzi, was it Long Wu who gave you trouble?" Zhou Kai hurriedly asked, "Damn, one of these days I'll gather some people to have a talk with Long Wu."

"No." Lin Chuan shook his head.

"Then what really happened?" Zhou Kai asked in confusion, "Don't tell me you just robbed a bank?"

At that moment, Lin Chuan looked at them with a sharp gaze that frightened the two teenagers into retreating several steps backward. Lin Chuan sneered, "What? Scared?"

"No, not at all!" Zhou Kai shook his head repeatedly, saying, "I just can't believe you are that kind of person."

"That's right." Lin Chuan nodded, saying, "Although I'm not a good person, I definitely wouldn't do anything utterly outrageous."

"Then... then you..." Zhou Kai looked at Lin Chuan, puzzled.

"We'll talk about this matter later," Lin Chuan said as he put his clothes back on.

Zhou Kai and Lu Dapao saw that Lin Chuan was not seriously hurt and finally relaxed. Zhou Kai smiled and said, "Chuanzi, why are you wearing a suit in such hot weather?"

Lin Chuan was stunned, then realized, "Oh no, I totally forgot. Quick, give me the car!"

Zhou Kai puzzledly handed over the keys to Lin Chuan, who immediately ran outside. Before leaving, he also took Zhou Kai's casual jacket since his own clothes were not only torn but also covered in blood.

Unfortunately, by the time Lin Chuan hurriedly arrived, the girl he was supposed to meet for the arranged marriage had already left. Lin Chuan was quite conflicted.

When he got home, he inevitably faced a scolding. Apparently, the girl had waited for Lin Chuan for over an hour at the coffee shop. Aunt Zhou from the neighborhood committee called Mrs. Lin and severely criticized Lin Chuan for his lack of manners and upbringing. It was made clear that the 500 yuan red packet could not be returned.

......

Jiangbei City Public Security Bureau, News Office.

The Jiangbei City Public Security Bureau had already discussed this press conference through three major meetings and five smaller ones. Ultimately, the bureau decided to award Song Xiaojia a second-class merit.

That morning, the news office was bustling with activity as the event also included an awards ceremony. Secretary Hu Guomin of the city personally attended to underscore the importance of this press conference.

At ten in the morning, various major media, including local ones from Jiangbei City as well as other major media from diferent regions, all gathered at the scene.

The news office had set up a large stage, and behind it, a backdrop showing an image of Song Xiaojia in police uniform, holding a steel gun, looking bold and heroic. However, Song Xiaojia, who was the focus of this award ceremony, seemed confused these days. According to Director Chen's instructions, she donned her newest police uniform and polished her shoes.

Next to Song Xiaojia was the slightly unkempt Zhang Wenhui.

At that moment, Song Xiaojia looked at Zhang Wenhui helplessly and said, "Chief Zhang, I really didn't do this, although I wish I could tell everyone it was me, but I can't lie, I can't accept this merit."

"I know!" Zhang Wenhui nodded.

"What?" Song Xiaojia was taken aback, saying, "Then why don't you help me tell Director Chen?"

"Because Director Chen knows it too!" Zhang Wenhui revealed a crooked smile with his yellowish teeth, appearing utterly sober.

"Then why does Director Chen still want to credit me with this achievement?" Song Xiaojia asked urgently.

"Because it's politically necessary," Zhang Wenhui slightly curved the corners of his mouth and said with a smile, "Among all departments, the public security is the least favored, so Director Chen must reverse this situation. He needs to stabilize his position among the city committee's standing members."

"No, I don't want to be a political scapegoat," Song Xiaojia said through gritted teeth. "I'm going to explain the situation to Hu Zhengwei!"

"It's useless," Zhang Wenhui shook his head, saying, "Because Hu Zhengwei also knows."

"Then I'll go to the city's secretary!" Song Xiaojia almost roared.

"Secretary Tang is even more aware," Zhang Wenhui hooked a strange smile.

"Why!" Song Xiaojia felt utterly drained.

"For Secretary Tang, this is also a political need!" Zhang Wenhui laughed, "The image of the police is increasingly tarnished, so this time, the city committee probably wants to establish a positive image of the police. And you, not only do you fit the appearance, but you also accidentally became a hero. The city committee naturally wouldn't miss out on such an opportunity."

In fact, Zhang Wenhui wanted to say that her background also made them determined to push her forward. But ultimately, he didn't say it out loud.
