Damon chuckled, shaking his head. "You know, when I got your call, I almost didn't believe it." He leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on his knees.
"Maria, coming all the way down here in person? Must be something serious." His eyes narrowed slightly, assessing her.
"So, tell me, what is it that's so damn important you'd step into my territory instead of sending one of your little messengers?"
He wasn't mocking her. Not entirely. His voice held a certain level of amusement, but there was something else—genuine curiosity. After all, Maria never moved without reason.
