Immediately Avery's voice cut through the soft hum of conversations like a blade. "Since everyone is finally here," she said, her tone sharp and laced with irritation, "I think it's time we officially begin."
However Valentina didn't look up. She and Sha were still smiling, still whispering back and forth like two friends who hadn't seen each other in years. Their laughter wasn't loud, but it was real—and that made Avery's stomach twist even more.
Immediately She pressed her lips together and forced a smile. "And since some of us haven't graced this gathering in years, I think it's only fair that Valentina and Sha cover the cost of today's beads and refreshments. It's tradition after all."
Avery words made a few heads turn. A few people exchanged glances. Sha raised a brow. Valentina didn't react at all, as if the words hadn't touched her.
