At that moment Emma's eyes flickered in surprise.
There was a pause on the other end.
Then—"Why, why are you letting them go?"
Sofia exhaled slowly, glancing out the window as she tilted her head slightly.
Her voice was smooth, effortless.
"They've learned their lesson."
Another pause.
Sofia's fingers tapped lightly against the armrest.
"They sold it for less. They paid their price."
At that moment in time Emma felt a sense of relief wash over her.
For the first time since meeting Sofia, she saw a glimpse of humanity in her.
She wasn't just a ruthless monster—she had chosen mercy.
Emma let out a slow breath, her tensed shoulders easing slightly.
Sofia, however, didn't dwell on the moment.
She simply gave Emma a small nod, as if acknowledging her thoughts without actually speaking them aloud.
Then, with a flick of her wrist, she ended the call and started the car.
Neither of them said much as they drove toward Zane's mansion.
