Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: penthouse

As we walked into the building, I couldn't help but feel awed. The lobby was sleek and modern, with a large chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Chris led me to the elevator, his hand on the small of my back, guiding me inside.

As the doors closed, I felt a sense of claustrophobia wash over me. I was trapped, with no way out. Chris stood beside me, his eyes fixed on the numbers ticking by on the display.

The elevator stopped on the top floor, and Chris led me out into a luxurious penthouse apartment. The view was stunning, with floor-to-ceiling windows that looked out over the city.

I walked over to the window, trying to take in the view, but my mind was racing. What was I doing here? And what did Chris plan to do with me?

As I stood there, with Chris standing so close behind me. I didn't like how quiet it was, so I cleared my throat softly "where are the other people you live with"? I asked, the penthouse apartment was too big for only a student to be able to afford, so I assumed he had paid with people.

Chris looked at me; amused. "There are no other people, Zoey. Yes, the guys come over sometimes, but I stay alone. I like my space"He said

I looked at him, surprised. "You mean, you paid for this apartment by yourself"?

Chris hummed like it wasn't a big deal, he strolled towards the wine cellar, bringing out a bottle of wine and two glasses. I sat down on a couch as I observed the house.

I wondered what he does for a living to be able to afford to rent such an apartment.

Chris sat down beside me on the couch and I immediately straightened. He curled a brow at me in question, noticing my reaction. He poured a glass for me and handed it to me. I eyed him and the glass in his hand suspiciously without taking it.

His hand, still stretched "it's not poisoned Zoey" he said.

I raised a brow at him "And why should I trust you? For all we know, It could in fact be poisoned or drugged"

Chris rolled his eyes and muttered " That's such a boring way to kill ".

As he had said it lowly, I did not know if it was my ears playing tricks or he was just cracking a lame joke.

Chris took a Big gulp of my glass, "satisfied"? He asked, handing me the glass again.

I still did not take it "No, let it rest first" I said, pointing to the table in front of us.

Chris chuckled as he shook his head in amusement, "You're so dramatic, it's funny" he said and dropped the glass on the small table.

"Don't blame me for not trusting someone who has once broken my trust" I stated, looking him straight in the eyes.

Almost immediately, I felt the air in the room shift. We stared at each other in silence. I could see flashes of different emotions reflecting in his eyes. Anger, guilt and…sadness?

He grinded his teeth "Zo, about what happened…"

"It's better we don't talk about it" I said, cutting him off. I reached over to take my glass of wine from the table and finished the content in one go. I reached my empty glass towards him so he could refill it.

He refilled my glass and I drank the whole content without saying a word, he also didn't say a word; leaving me to my thoughts.
