The glowing balls were nothing but Xib'al'kah only. They had a candle attached to their helmet, like a mining helmet with a torch, which was used by miners in his previous world.
Although it seemed it did not help the Xib'al'kah much, for it did not give them night vision; it just gave them a bit better vision at night for a few inches ahead of them. It was not very effective, but at least it was better than absolutely nothing.
Arin issued a command to his Spectres via telepathy, and on his command the Spectres started hunting down the flying orbs with merciless precision.
One by one, the Xib'al'kah started dropping like flies, being assassinated by the Spectres.
Arin resumed climbing once again.
After a while he arrived at the foot of the huge box-like structure.
Arin grabbed the platform by its ledge and slowly raised his head high enough to get a sneak peek of the situation above.
