Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Spy and the Kryptonian

The hallways of Smallville High bustled with students, chatter, and the occasional slam of lockers. The air smelled faintly of freshly waxed floors, cheap cafeteria food, and teenage hormones—a setting that, to Kara, felt pointless.

She moved through the crowd effortlessly, her Kryptonian senses allowing her to tune out the distractions.

Truthfully, she wasn't particularly interested in school.

Academically, she was leagues ahead of her peers.

Mathematics, science, history—child's play. Even without actively trying, she consistently scored at the top of every test.

Still, she attended because Martha insisted.

"You need to live a normal life, sweetheart. Make friends. Experience the world."

And so, here she was—walking through the halls of mundane human learning, lost in thought.

Then, she rounded a corner—

And collided into someone.

Hard.

A New Player Enters

The impact barely made Kara stumble.

The other girl?

She wasn't so lucky.

With a soft thud, she landed on the ground, letting out a small grunt of discomfort.

"Oof."

The girl rubbed her back, wincing slightly. "Guess I should watch where I'm going."

Kara extended a hand. "Are you okay?"

The girl took it, pulling herself up with a grateful smile.

"Yeah. My fault."

Kara studied her.

She had striking red hair, piercing green eyes, and an athletic build. There was an air of confidence about her, a natural ease in the way she moved.

She dusted herself off before holding out her hand.

"Natasha. Natasha Romanoff. Just transferred here."

Kara shook it. "Kara Kent."

Natasha's eyes flickered with curiosity.

"Kent, huh? Any relation to the Kents from the farm?"

Kara nodded. "They're my adoptive parents."

Natasha grinned."Guess we'll be seeing more of each other."

Kara nodded back, unaware of how true those words would become.

Flashback – SHIELD Headquarters

The dimly lit office was silent, except for the rhythmic tapping of fingers against a desk.

Nick Fury sat behind it, arms crossed, his one good eye locked on the young woman standing before him.

Natasha Romanoff.

Eighteen years old. Already one of SHIELD's top assets. A prodigy in espionage, combat, and manipulation.

Across the desk, a thick file lay open.

The subject?

Kara Kent.

Fury tapped the document. "She's different."

Natasha raised an eyebrow but said nothing.

"We've kept eyes on her for years," Fury continued, "but after that incident on the farm, it's clear she's more than just a stranded alien."

He leaned forward. "She's dangerous."

Natasha remained impassive. "And what do you need me for?"

"Simple." Fury's voice was firm. "You're going undercover. High school student. Same grade as her. Get close. Earn her trust. Learn what she is."

A small smirk played at Natasha's lips.

"You want me to play best friends?"

Fury nodded. "Exactly."

She tilted her head. "And if she turns out to be a threat?"

Fury's expression darkened. "Then we'll take appropriate action."

Present – The Growing Friendship

Days turned into weeks, and just as planned, Natasha integrated herself into Kara's life.

It was almost too easy.

Natasha was charming, easygoing, and fiercely intelligent—a perfect match to Kara's quiet but determined nature.

They bonded over shared training sessions, late-night talks, and their mutual disinterest in high school drama.

Kara introduced Natasha to her adoptive parents.

Jonathan had been cautious, always suspicious of strangers getting too close to his daughter.

But Martha?

She had been warm, welcoming—treating Natasha like another daughter.

For the first time, Kara let her guard down.

She had never fully opened up to anyone outside of her family before.

But with Natasha…

She felt like she could.

Meanwhile, Kal Watched… and Smirked

From the moment Natasha stepped into their home, Kal—Clark—saw right through her.

To everyone else, she was just a transfer student.

To him?

She reeked of SHIELD.

Every movement, every calculated glance, every carefully measured word—it was painfully obvious.

She wasn't here by coincidence.

She was here for Kara.

Did he care?

Not in the slightest.

SHIELD could watch all they wanted.

As long as they didn't interfere with him, they were nothing more than background noise.

If anything?

He found it amusing.

They thought they could control this situation.

They thought they could control Kara.

They had no idea.

Final Thoughts

Kal leaned back in his crib, his bright blue eyes twinkling with amusement.

Let them send more women like Natasha.

Maybe, in the future…

He'd take care of them personally.

For now?

He was just a kid, after all.
