Marcellus came to me in Nyx's estate, his concern written all over him. It was the only natural feeling I had seen in him for a while. He pulled me in to an embrace. "I thought something happened to you."
"You shouldn't be here. I would have found my way home regardless."
His voice always found me like a storm cloud—low, pressing, and impossible to ignore. I straightened slowly, heart thudding in protest. Marcellus stood at the edge of the clearing, arms crossed over his chest like he could command the forest itself to part for him. "What happened to you? Who took you?"
"I don't know who they were but Nyx said they were mercenaries."
"What were you doing in the woods? Without any security? Do you know how dangerous it is to be out there on your own?"
"If I didn't then, I do now." I rolled my eyes. He glared at me.
