Chapter 42 - Unravelling the Prophecy

"This prophecy doesn't make sense."

I slammed the ancient tome shut, the musty fragrance of its aged pages filling the air. The faint light of the council room created shadows on the ancient inscriptions engraved into the stone walls surrounding us.

Kael sat back in his chair, his golden eyes shining with gentle enjoyment. "Prophecies rarely do, Beta's daughter. That's the joy of them."

"Fun?" I snapped, glaring at him. "There's nothing fun about a cryptic riddle deciding the fate of the pack—or the bond."

"Aria," Luca's voice sliced through the tension, calm but forceful.

"We're not going to solve this by yelling."

I turned to him, my fury spilling out. "Then how are we supposed to solve it, Luca? Every time we think we're closer to understanding, it twists into something new."

Luca walked to stand next to me, his presence calming. His grey eyes locked into mine, he murmured, "We'll figure it out." "Together."
