Kael drew looks as he walked through the broken streets of the Outer Ring. He wore a coat with a hood that he'd found abandoned in the street, and the black fabric partially covered his face.
Now that he was such a recognizable figure here, he liked to keep a lower profile to keep from having to speak to more people than he wished.
But it didn't seem to be working.
Everyone knew him now as the face of the rebellion.
"Duskborne," he heard them whisper as he passed.
"He's the one who killed Magnus Vaelor…," another whispered.
That wasn't true. Magnus was still locked up.
It had only been a few hours since their last interrogation, but already Kael wanted to go back and check on the High Official.
If their only prisoner somehow managed to escape, they would have less to bargain with.
Someone threw a rotting shoe at Kael's head, screaming in a language he'd never heard before.
