Chapter 70 - FOR THE AUTHORS

Adjusts my Stitch onesie and settles into my writing chair, pulling my knees up to my chest

Hey everyone! First, I want to thank you all for the absolutely amazing support - 2250 powerstones is just... squeals and hugs pillow You're all incredible! The bonus chapter will be up later today as promised, but I wanted to take a moment to address something really important first.

I've noticed quite a few aspiring writers in the comments asking about the writing process, particularly about planning versus "pantsing" (writing by the seat of your pants). Lycoris and I have pretty different approaches, but they complement each other really well. Actually... glances at notebooks scattered across desk ...working with him has helped me find a much better balance than I had with my previous stories.

Chews on sleeve thoughtfully

See, with my Danmachi story and MHA: Limitless, I was totally a "pantser" - just diving in and letting the creativity flow wherever it wanted. And while that can create some really amazing moments, it also led to... well... winces ...some pretty messy plot threads and character arcs that didn't quite come together the way I wanted.

But Lycoris has this really interesting approach that's kind of changed how I look at story planning. Want to hear his take on it?

Scoots chair aside to let Lycoris explain

"It's less about planning every single detail," he said, adjusting his silver watch with practiced precision, "and more about knowing your destination. I actually write backwards, in a sense. For each arc, I first determine where I want the characters to end up - not just in terms of plot points, but emotionally and relationally."

He pulled out one of his antique fountain pens, sketching a quick diagram. "Take the Sports Festival arc. Before writing a single scene, I knew exactly how I wanted each major relationship to evolve: Izuku and Camie's bond deepening through mutual support, Momo's growing feelings creating productive tension, Bakugo's grudging respect taking root. These endpoints become your North Star."

Bounces excitedly in chair

"That's what helped me so much!" I interjected. "Instead of just throwing cool scenes together and hoping they'd connect, I started thinking about the character journeys first. Like, where does Hitomi need to be emotionally by the end of this arc for her development to make sense? What realizations does Izuku need to have? Then the actual writing becomes about creating the path to those moments!"

Lycoris nodded, his gray eyes thoughtful. "Exactly. The key is finding the balance between structure and spontaneity. You need enough planning to keep your story coherent, but enough flexibility to let organic moments emerge. Sometimes your characters will surprise you with better ideas than you had planned."

Lycoris set down his pen, his expression serious. "Think of it like building a house. You need a solid foundation and framework - that's your major plot points and character arcs. But within those walls, you have freedom to arrange the furniture however you like. The structure supports your creativity rather than constraining it."

Pulls out my butterfly-covered notebook

"And it really helps with writer's block too!" I said. "When I get stuck now, I can look at where I need the characters to end up and work backwards. Like, okay, if I need Hitomi to trust Izuku by the end of this arc, what experiences would lead her there? What obstacles would make that journey meaningful?"

"The other advantage," Lycoris added, "is that it helps prevent plot holes and character inconsistencies. When you know your destination, it's easier to make sure all your story elements are working together toward that goal rather than pulling in different directions."

Sits up straighter, getting passionate

"But here's what I really want aspiring writers to know," I said, hugging my knees. "There's no single 'right' way to write. Some people need detailed outlines for every chapter. Others work better with just broad strokes. The important thing is finding the method that helps YOU tell the story you want to tell."

Lycoris smiled slightly. "Indeed. My approach works for me because I like having that clear direction. It helps me maintain consistent character development and thematic resonance. But Wisteria brings a spontaneity and emotional intuition to her writing that can't be planned - it has to flow naturally."

Nods enthusiastically

"That's why we work so well together! His structure helps keep my creativity focused, while my instincts help add those unexpected emotional moments that make the story feel alive. It's like... like Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist! You need both the flowing water AND the solid rock to make it work!"

Realizes I'm getting carried away with the metaphor and blushes

"Sorry, got a bit excited there! But basically, what I've learned is that planning doesn't have to kill creativity. It's about finding the right balance for YOU. Start with your endpoints - where do you want your characters to end up? Then let your creativity flow within those channels."

Lycoris gathered his notes. "Remember, even the most detailed plan is just a guide. The actual writing process will always involve discovery and adaptation. The key is having enough structure to keep you on track without boxing yourself in."

Pulls sleeve away from mouth and sits up straight

"So to directly answer the question - no, I don't plan every single interaction and event anymore. But I do make sure I know where I'm going before I start the journey. And it's made such a difference! This story feels so much more cohesive than my previous ones, while still having room for those magical unexpected moments that make writing fun!"

Glances at clock and yelps

"Oh! Speaking of writing, I should get back to that bonus chapter! But I hope this helps explain our process a bit. Remember, there's no wrong way to write - just find what works for you! And if you're struggling with planning, try starting with endpoints and working backwards. It might just help unlock your creativity in ways you didn't expect!"

Reaches for coffee mug

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some Sports Festival matches to write! Thank you all again for the amazing support, and the bonus chapter will be up later today! Plus Ultra!"

Waves enthusiastically before turning back to laptop

"Any final words of wisdom, Lycoris?"

"Just this: Don't let planning become procrastination. At some point, you have to start writing. The perfect plan means nothing without execution."

Nods sagely before immediately getting distracted by a butterfly outside the window

"Right! What he said! Now seriously, back to writing! Love you all!"
