Chapter 26 - Return to the Kingdom

Yuan dozed slightly on the bench. He had returned to the kingdom hours ago, and had crashed in the locker rooms. Immediate changes were being made but those who were sent out were allowed time to rest. As far as he knew, the destruction was disguised as a natural gas explosion and the entire SGB was burned down. Extra measures had been taken to ensure that visible energy weapon marks would not be visible. In a few hours, the path of everyone's life would drastically alter forever.

In the lower levels of the kingdom, in mysterious chambers, emergency orders were being relayed and the old illusion of an eternal war Yuan had first seen had now evolved into a dense peaceful forest with certain species sent up to resemble primitive natives, as it was now evident that the dynasty would be attempting to strike down on all sentient beings they found in their explorations, regardless of the state of peace. That meant that the millions of other planets with perpetual wars would have a sudden state of oppression brought upon them, though not as harmful as a war. This irony played around in Yuan's mind. The dynasty which had committed such an extreme amount of crimes in the past was now bringing its rule upon the warring states. Surely, immense amounts of suffering would be felt in the years to come. But would the inhabitants of the planets really desire to return to their old state. Certainly not.

The philosophy tired Yuan's mind. This universe. It was just too big. The longest living species could dedicate themselves for eternity to studies of this place yet they would not descend below the surface level of information. The definition of "good" and "evil" were not set across all species, much less the sub-traditions and sub-cultures of the different internal groups within all the species. Even the major star systems disagreed with the concept of good and evil. It took costly thought crusades to get all the species to agree to one concept of virtue, though at the cost of traditional values. Imagine any human being's response to pain and suffering. The response is of sadness, negative feelings and a desire for change, even among the worst of us. Now the glaberocephalus, for example, one of the advanced races of the universe, takes the same concept of pain and suffering but establishes it as the human equivalence of happiness and contentment. The issue here became that when the glaberocephalus civilization came into contact with the human civilization, the treatment of the former by the latter was extremely brutal and horrific. That is, from the view of the humans. Now scale this type of conflict across a whole universe, and you will receive an incomprehensible array of issues. It was only when the Void entered this universe that the vast majority of species managed to seek peace with one another. This is another principle Yuan found engaging. The trillions of years prior spent warring, all ended when a common enemy was discovered. The dynasty utilized the newfound justice principle among nations and took advantage of this, bringing their so-called "superior" races together, and leaving the "persecuted" races which were always described as enemies. Now as a layman of the persecuted races, Yuan had to believe that this was all wrong, however, looking through a larger lens, Yuan had to admit that the dynasty made immense progress, bringing countless races to prosperity, together. It was just mind-boggling how evil could turn good with a simple switch of the lens.

There was still some distance left to cover, Yuan relaxed. There would be enough pain and suffering in the decades to come. Shui Ren was right.
