My eyes go to Connall to discover his attention isn't on my father anymore, but on me. From the faint smile playing on his lips, he knows he's making me nervous and doesn't mind it one bit.
I lower my gaze back to my plate, and the last few bites of a serving so small that I doubt it'd fill a regular human's stomach because it doesn't come close to filling my shifter one. "No thanks, I'm not hungry."
Ordinarily, he'd push me to eat more, or playfully dump more food on my plate than I could ever hope to eat, and that I'd find a way of finishing anyway, but not today. Today even he must feel the tension around the table, a tension that even Minerva 's soothing presence can't abate.
"I have training with Minerva in a bit," I murmur.
"No need to eat fast on my account. We have the rest of the day for that," Minerva says.
Uh, there goes my fast escape.
"Training?" Connall asks.
"I'm guiding Cassia through the use of her omega gifts," Minerva responds.
