The next day, not long after Minerva has gone into the house to rest, I hear someone shove the back door open. When the person to emerge from it is Orion and not Lucian, I sigh. "He's not coming, is he?"
Orion crosses over to where I'm kneeling in front of the vegetable patch in the backyard. "Zia wanted to pick up some things from town and asked if he would take her."
I turn back to the soil before picking up a trowel. "How's his dad? Did he say?"
Beside me, Orion retrieves the other trowel from the handful of garden tools I'd set out shortly after Minerva and I arrived at the house.
"Calmer. They spent all of last night together as wolves. Connall actually had a conversation that didn't involve growling or mocking anyone at breakfast this morning, if you can believe it. I think even your father was surprised."
I smile at Orion's dry tone. "That's good."
I wish I could tell Orion that my morning was better, but it'd be a lie.
