After lunch, I take Lucian's hand and lead him upstairs before doing something I should've done long before now. I tell him what's going on.
"Your father is the main reason."
Sitting beside me with his back flush against the wall of the nursery, I feel Lucian glance over at me. "For you staying with Minerva ?"
I nod, keeping my gaze fixed on the cradle in front of us.
Most of the pack didn't come over for lunch, which isn't all that unusual since they can't make it for every meal. With Connall failing to appear, and my father busy talking to Orion eating next to him, it felt like for the first time in days I wasn't tense or anxious.
But as I ate the burgers and fries Lucian and Minerva had picked up for us from the diner, I realized that Connall has threatened me twice now, and both times I didn't go to the one person I trust more than anyone else. The person who could stop it. Lucian.
