The morning sun peeked through the curtains of Sam's room, casting soft golden light across his bed. He groggily opened his eyes, still feeling the warmth of last night's emotions lingering in his heart. His fingers instinctively reached for the locket on his nightstand.
Flipping it open, he stared at the small picture inside—Mahiru's gentle smile looking back at him.
A slow smile formed on his lips.
So this is what happiness feels like...
Stretching lazily, he sat up and checked his phone.
Mahiru: Good morning (^^). Did you sleep well?
He chuckled to himself, shaking his head. She always texts first.
Sam: Good morning. Yeah, I did. You?
Mahiru: I kept waking up… I think I was too happy to sleep properly.
Sam's eyes widened slightly before he rubbed the back of his neck, his heart doing a small flip.
Sam: Dummy… At least take care of yourself.
Mahiru: Hehe, I'm fine. Do you have any plans today?
Sam glanced around his quiet room.
Sam: Not really. You?
Mahiru took a moment before replying.
Mahiru: Not really either… Should we go out?
Sam blinked. She was asking him out? It wasn't their first time going somewhere together, but still, the way she casually asked made his heart skip a beat.
Sam: Where do you want to go?
Mahiru: Anywhere's fine, as long as it's with you.
Sam nearly dropped his phone. He quickly set it down and rubbed his face, feeling his entire body heat up.
She really says things like that so easily…
Taking a deep breath to calm himself, he picked up his phone again.
Sam: Alright, let's meet at noon.
Mahiru: Okay! Can't wait (✿◕‿◕).
Sam put his phone down and let out a long sigh.
"She really is going to be a reason for my death one day…"
Yet, at the same time, he wouldn't have it any other way.

Meanwhile, at Mahiru's apartment, she was practically glowing.
She spun around in her room, picking out different outfits, holding them up in front of the mirror.
What should I wear? Something cute? Something casual? Maybe a dress…?
She shook her head, laughing at herself.
"I'm acting like a girl in love…"
…Which, of course, she was.
With a warm smile, she looked out the window, excitement bubbling inside her.
Today is going to be another beautiful day.
