Sam had been going about his usual routine at college, blending in with his classmates. Though he hadn't told anyone about his relationship with Mahiru yet, he found himself thinking about her often. The moments they had shared recently—her sickness, the time he spent taking care of her—had made him feel even closer to her.
During lunchtime, Sam sat with his group of friends, casually eating while they talked about random things. One of them, Jake, leaned in with a smirk.
"Hey, Sam, you've been spacing out a lot lately. Got something on your mind?" Jake teased.
Sam blinked, shaking his head. "Nothing, just tired," he replied, trying to act normal.
Another friend, Liam, laughed. "Yeah, right. You sure you're not secretly dating someone?"
Sam almost choked on his drink but quickly composed himself. "What kind of nonsense is that?" he said, looking away.
Before his friends could continue their teasing, Sam's phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen and saw Mahiru's name. He couldn't help but smile a little, something that didn't go unnoticed by his friends.
Jake and Liam exchanged glances before Jake spoke up again. "That's a suspicious smile, my guy. Who's the lucky person?"
Sam cleared his throat. "Just a friend," he muttered, but the blush on his face betrayed him.
Meanwhile, in Mahiru's college, she had been thinking about Sam too. Though she hadn't told anyone , she found herself wanting to share her happiness with others. But for now, she kept it to herself, simply enjoying the feeling of being in love.
After finishing his lunch, Sam decided to go outside to reply to Mahiru's message. But just as he was typing, he heard a familiar voice behind him.
"Sam?"
His body stiffened. That voice—he knew it. Turning around, he saw someone he hadn't expected to meet today.
