"You look like an idiot," she said from her spot on the couch, munching on snacks.
Sam sighed, rubbing his cheek. "Shut up."
Anna grinned. "She kissed you, didn't she?"
Sam froze.
Anna smirked. "Knew it."
Sam groaned. "Go to sleep, Anna."
"Goodnight, loverboy," Anna teased, skipping to her room.
Shaking his head, Sam flopped onto his bed, staring at the ceiling.
His phone vibrated.
Mahiru: Did you reach your room safely?
Sam chuckled.
Sam: I should be asking you that.
Mahiru: I'm home. I just… couldn't sleep yet.
Sam hesitated before typing.
Sam: Same here.
There was a pause.

Mahiru: Did I surprise you?
Sam's heart skipped.
He knew exactly what she meant.

Sam sat up straight.

Sam smiled, warmth filling his chest.
