Chapter 31 - Chapter 31 - New Foci

The morning sun woke her before Luna stirred and she carefully got out of the bed, gingerly moving so as not to wake the sleeping elf. She padded around into the room and paused to glance at the mirror she'd also purchased, currently the only other piece of furniture in the home besides a chest and coat rack by the door. She'd had enough money only to make certain that she'd have a place to sleep and was able to look out onto the starseeing pond from both floors.

The chest had been provided with no charge to store things from her inventory. The coat rack had been considered a cosmetic item, considering most players stored their things in the chests when not wearing them and had been cheap.

Realizing she had no brush or anything else, she sighed and ran fingers through her short hair until it cooperated somewhat before shifting forms. She'd been very careful designing the floors, the bed and even the staircase and front door so that the home would be traversable in both of her forms.

She'd just turned towards the staircase, tail swishing slightly as she thought about exploring the grove for the first time and planning what she was going to do with the new space, when Luna grumbled and sat up after feeling around and finding Ash absent.

"I was going to stretch my legs while you woke up," Ash explained as her dear friend hopped out of the large bed. Ash couldn't get onto it in her unicorn form where it hung but it could be lowered to the floor with a touch of magic and would still support her when hanging if she shifted in her sleep for some reason. It had cost the most of Ash's fund besides the house itself but she'd reasoned that if she was going to be sleeping in Fantastoria, it should be comfortable.

"Of course you were," Luna grumbled sleepily, while approaching, "With no regard to anything else, I'm sure," a brush appeared in her hand from her inventory, was swiftly dragged through her hair then turned upon Ash's mane, "Lead the way."

The tour was a short one, Luna was impossible to deal with until she was fed and Ash didn't exactly have food in the house yet. When she'd suggested that Luna drag something from her inventory, considering she nearly always had some form of snack on her, she'd earned an affronted look. Breakfast, she'd grumbled, was meant to be warm.

With Ash back in her elven form, short hair carefully brushed, they appeared from the same teleportation array they'd used to get to her home. Yarrow waited for them, dressed casually as before. He offered to join them for breakfast and to go fetch Ash's new foci before heading to the guild as they'd planned the day before.

When Ash tried to insist that he needn't trouble himself, she was reminded swiftly that she was Sidus' daughter and, as such, was definitely someone that fell under his oath to protect. He'd been asked to keep an eye out for her and help her learn what she needed to know. She wasn't going to get rid of him until he was certain they wouldn't immediately be picking her unconscious body up from the island in Sidus' starseeing pond after she met an untimely end.

They were on their way to the retrieve the foci after a pleasant breakfast when Ash asked curiously, "Are you sure he's even done? This kind of work usually takes a fair bit of time."

Yarrow rolled his eyes slightly, "Oh, I'm sure. He sent me a message this morning letting me know it was ready and that he wasn't going to sleep until he made sure it all fit right and worked the way he wanted it to. He was up the entire night working."

The shop was closed but apparently Arfved was eagerly waiting for them, because he darted to the door almost as soon as Yarrow's fist had touched it to knock. His gaze took in their duo turned trio and he nodded slightly at Luna, "Was hoping you'd drop by. Figured you'd probably be high on the list to get one of these."

He turned and led the way into the shop, telling Yarrow to lock up behind them as he wasn't opening at all. He went on to explain he'd likely get some sleep and then be at the temple thanking Sidus for the opportunity to work with such magnificent materials.

The silversmithing desk had twelve different foci on it, some individual and some made in sets, all crafted with parts of the horns he'd trimmed. Ash felt Luna's frustrated glare on her, though the priestess had already known about the trimming before.

"Next time," Luna grumbled with frustration, "Let me know. Unless we get you some trinkets to resist status effects, you've none when your horn is first trimmed. It takes about twelve hours for you to put them back together."

Ash gave Luna first pick, hoping it would curb her temper somewhat. Luna caught hold of three small carved earrings and put them into place where the holes already awaited them. The main loop was carved from a small part of Ash's main horn and gleamed like well-polished stone while the two smaller loops that ran tight around her ear gleamed as if carved of gemstone, reflecting light in a deep dark green.

Arfved had noticed and asked about the empty spots for earrings when she'd first showed up with Gardenia for foci. She only used Ash's horns for those earring foci and wasn't going to change the trend any time soon. All he'd been able to do was nod and beg the chance to work with the material in question if she ever got her hands on it.

Ash's three foci were front and center on the table, clearly the first thing he'd crafted. The ring was like Luna's large loop, carved from Ash's main horn and polished to a beautiful sheen. The bracelet and anklet were both made of expensive starsilver with the pieces of her darker horns polished to a gemstone gleam and set into them.

"They have some magic on them to help with sizing just in case the measurements I took in a hurry were off," Ash slipped them on as she listened to Arfved explain, delighted when they both fit perfectly and looked like normal jewelry, "The sizing magic should also hold if you have to change forms," he waved a hand slightly to invite her to do so.

Ash grumbled slightly but obliged, watching as Luna examined each of the pieces of jewelry to make certain they were undamaged in Arfved's stead. She wasn't particularly intimidating laying with her head on his workshop floor but he was perfect kicking height and didn't want to chance it. The bracelet was firmly around her front right leg, the anklet on her back left while the ring had slipped itself around her tail just above where the hair began.

She shifted back as soon as the examination of the jewelry was done only for the dwarf to rush to examine them all over again. He wanted to make sure they properly shifted in size and, in the case of the ring, location without any errors. Only once he was satisfied did he send them on their way and retire to his own bed.
