Chapter 43 - Chapter 43 - Joining a Full Party

Ash was still in his arms when she heard the door open. A slight shake of his head kept her from trying to get up as he directed his gaze to see who approached, "Gardenia," he said with a slight nod of acknowledgement, "You may approach."

Gardenia came near but paused just within reach and offered a blanket, "Someone just came to me saying that they saw a person fall into the pond an hour ago. Apparently," her voice held a hint of curiosity, "They hesitated to tell me because they were quite certain you had pushed the individual into the pond, Lord Sidus."

He chuckled lightly and accepted the blanket before finally placing Ash on the ground beside him and draping it over her shoulders. She was no longer shivering near as hard as she had been and was mostly cold because she was unused to the feel of the starseeing pond's water after so long. Luna still took care of washing Ash down with the water relatively often as she slept but it was not the every day occurrence it should have been, nor was Ash aware of it due to the magics keeping her unconscious.

"Perhaps in a few days," he said jokingly, "Should she not return to her routines properly," he looked once more to Gardenia and spoke once more, "You need not kneel in deference the entire time we speak, Gardenia. I do not believe I have had the occasion to mention it, but I do not generally care for such formalities beyond initial greetings and ceremonies where I am expected to maintain decorum."

Gardenia straightened just in time for the door to open once again. Luna called out a greeting as she approached and Yarrow, at first, tried to stand guard by the door as he had before. Sidus motioned the paladin forward, explaining that he did not mind people coming by to see him and that all in the temple had always been respectful when they did.

He also had the added advantage of no one save the person that had seen him pulling Ash from the pond and those in the area with him knew he was present. The temple had already been alight with Ash's presence for so much time that few peeked in anymore.

Luna glanced at Ash and frowned slightly, "If you're going to jump in the pond, you should really have a change of clothes," she teased gently before lowering her voice a bit, "Are you alright Ash?"

"Dusk caught me by surprise," she grumbled, pulling the blanket a little closer as both Gardenia and Yarrow moved to stand in front of Sidus where they could also see her. Her light clothing was soaked and she wasn't certain how much of it was rendered see-through.

Luna sighed slightly at her having explained nothing and demanded a better explanation. That explanation brought a slight scowl to Yarrow's face, followed by a warning that it was important for those she traveled with to know such things. Until she found trustworthy companions outside of the temple, it would be best for her to either adventure alone, keeping the time in mind, or with someone from the temple with her.

"If that morph had taken too much longer, you'd have collapsed in the middle of it and we'd have all perished," he warned.

Ash's soft pink eyes glanced up at him, a spark of defiance in them, "I'm sure Luna's told you by now, nothing can keep me confined so long as I have my magic. While we were fighting, I was aware of the time. I was prepared to pull us all out of the dungeon. Considering in your scenario the morph would have been ongoing, there would have been time to gather a party to assault the dungeon and stop a break."

Yarrow grumbled slightly, but couldn't exactly argue since they hadn't even left the dungeon before Ash had yanked them out of it and into the temple. That kind of thing was supposed to require extreme amounts of mana as well as specialized magical items that cost insane amounts of money. It wasn't a skill they could let get out to the general public as, just like what she was, it was something people would want to exploit.

Back on the idea of the dungeon, Luna was the one to speak next, "I'll be sitting out the next dungeon, you'll be safe with Yarrow and everyone else. Speaking of," she grinned a bit, "You have a request at the adventurer's guild," when Ash asked what kind of request, she merely glanced at Yarrow and grinned even more.

"Pre-existing parties that aren't full are able to make requests for a person to join them for a short while or permanently. The party I generally move about with only has four members currently. Rather than asking for a fifth temporary, someone we didn't know, I decided to extend a request to you personally," his gaze slid to Gardenia, "On that note, Nia, we have a dungeon to explore tomorrow. Considering Ash's condition we'll want to start early and be certain to be somewhere safe at dusk. The meadow underwent a morph. They want to know how bad it's gotten, difficulty levels, how deep it goes now, the whole deal."

Gardenia sighed, "You're coming with me to tell Fel and Fi that their date's been put off for another day, then," she grumbled.

Ash's confused gaze drew Yarrow's attention once more, "Our party is quite unconventional, yes. With you joining, it will appear even less conventional to an outside observer considering you'll make healer number three. In truth, Gardenia acts as an attacker as will you since Fi took a full oath of pacifism."

"And supposed love interest number four," Gardenia said, her tone a little sour, "You'd think any party with a man and a woman was because they were in bed together. We are married, but that's entirely beside the point and Fel and Fi are their own thing, opposites attract and all that."
