Just as Zainah was sighing to herself in relief, thinking that even though she had been so bold, Sett hadn't seen her, a hand tightly wrapped around her from the back. She was startled, her entire body screaming, before she heard a whisper.
"Damn you, Zainah, damn you," Sett said, his arms tightening.
Immediately, Zainah's face began to heat up. First, her face became completely red. Then her neck reddened.
And soon after, she completely paled.
Sett was here. Egrith was also here.
Her heart hammered in her chest, each beat louder than the last. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead, though the air around her felt icy. She tried to steady herself, clinging to a fragile hope: Egrith hadn't noticed. He couldn't have. He wasn't even looking earlier, right?
She turned slowly, forcing a smile, her movements stiff and deliberate. But the moment her eyes met Egrith's, her blood ran cold. He was staring. Staring right at her, his gaze piercing and cold. The gaze of a heartless man.
