Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: The First Floor Boss – The Serpent Lady

Boss?

Lin Fan was momentarily stunned when he heard Lilian's words.

"The Nine-Serpent King isn't until the ninth floor, right?"

"The Nine-Serpent King is indeed on the ninth floor, but each floor of the Nine-Story Monster Tower has its own boss," Lilian replied.

Hearing this, Lin Fan couldn't help but frown.

He was already struggling to deal with the small monsters—now they were throwing a boss at him? This was a death sentence.

Lin Fan swiftly took down the last few zombies.

The ground was littered with rotten flesh, gunpowder, string, spider eyes, and some gear that had dropped from the monsters.

As he fought, he picked up the loot scattered around him.

At that moment, the boss was getting closer. It slithered forward, hissing, and even Lin Fan could feel an invisible sense of oppression.

"It's here!" Lin Fan took a deep breath and looked toward the eastern side of the Nine-Story Monster Tower.

The others also seemed to feel the boss's overwhelming presence. They gripped their stone swords tightly and swallowed nervously.

"It feels like something big is coming…"

"Look at Lin Fan, he's retreating westward. That means something dangerous is coming from the east…"

"Damn, the monsters in this plaza are already too much to handle. And now there's more?"

The group furrowed their brows, their earlier lightheartedness gone. This was a matter of life and death.

In truth, many of their comrades had already fallen to the monsters in the central plaza of the Nine-Story Monster Tower. They had been cautious since the start, but now… every single one of them was calculating their next move.

Lin Fan steadily retreated westward. He had no idea how strong this boss was, so it was best to play it safe.

Seeing him move, the others followed suit, slowly making their way west.

Lin Fan glanced at them, then took out some wheat bread from his inventory. He ate two pieces to refill his hunger bar, then pulled out a water tube from his travel bag and drank a few gulps, fully replenishing his thirst bar.

He had taken a few hits earlier, losing three hearts. But with his hunger and thirst filled, his health began to regenerate.

The group continued battling the monsters. Many had sustained minor injuries, while others had already perished.

The Nine-Story Monster Tower was no joke. Every year, countless warriors entered, but just as many met their end inside.

"Why do I feel like these monsters are getting stronger?"

"Yeah, ever since Lin Fan started retreating westward, the zombies seem faster— Ah—!"

Before he could finish his sentence, the man was swarmed by zombies. His screams echoed for only a moment before he was torn apart.

His equipment and several hundred gold coins scattered onto the ground—likely his earnings since entering the tower.

The others shuddered at the sight of his corpse. But some, bolder than the rest, rushed forward and scooped up his loot.

This was nothing new.

Since entering the Nine-Story Monster Tower, many had looted the belongings of fallen warriors.

Some had even started killing their own comrades for profit.

After all, a zombie only dropped 20 gold coins, but a human could drop hundreds or even thousands.

After the brief commotion, the group continued their retreat westward. Meanwhile, the boss from the east was drawing closer.

Lilian finished off the last zombie near her and moved toward Lin Fan.

"The first-floor boss is a Serpent Lady. She has 500 HP—be careful."

Because of the Nine Nether Buff on Lin Fan, the Serpent Lady's target was clear—she would come straight for him.

Lin Fan nodded, understanding Lilian's warning.

Just as he was about to retreat further, a massive python suddenly burst through the stone structure.

It let out a deafening roar, its eyes blood-red, staring directly at Lin Fan.

"It's here—!" Lin Fan's expression turned serious.

The Serpent Lady's entire body was green and enormous. From head to tail, she spanned at least a hundred blocks. Her tail lashed violently, and venom dripped from her razor-sharp fangs.

"What the hell is that?!"

"Looks like this floor's boss, huh?"

"Why is it staring straight at Lin Fan? Did he mess up?"

"No way. Lin Fan's been luring monsters this whole time. My guess? He probably attracted the snake on purpose."

The crowd erupted into hushed, anxious discussions, but deep down, they were all terrified.

Even though they knew the Serpent Lady was fixated on Lin Fan, there was no guarantee she wouldn't suddenly go berserk and drag them into the fight.

Realizing this, many began distancing themselves from Lin Fan.

Rather than retreat westward with him, some now felt that staying east might actually be the safer choice.

Lin Fan gripped his iron sword tightly, his gaze locked onto the Serpent Lady. She noticed his stare and, with a whip of her tail, lashed toward him at lightning speed.

His reflexes were sharp. The moment she struck, he moved.

After fighting so many monsters in the Nine-Story Monster Tower today, his combat instincts had grown significantly.

In just an instant, he dodged her attack.

"Kill me? You think you're worthy?" Lin Fan smirked and dashed forward, sword in hand.

Meanwhile, at the entrance of the Nine-Story Monster Tower…

Li Cheng, clad in iron armor and wielding an iron sword, strode into the tower with an air of confidence.

"Director Li, are we really going in?" A man in glasses followed closely behind him, visibly nervous.

Li Cheng sneered at his cowardice.

"The rewards inside the Nine-Story Monster Tower are far too valuable. Do you really think we should let Lin Fan take them all?"

"He already snagged the first 100 monster kill achievement. No way I'm letting him hog all the glory!" Li Cheng gritted his teeth.

Besides, the tower was treacherous. If Lin Fan ended up dying inside, well… wouldn't that just be expected?

His grip on his sword tightened as a glint flashed through his eyes.

The man in glasses remained oblivious to Li Cheng's true thoughts. As soon as they stepped inside, they were met with the sound of agonized screams.

Li Cheng halted in his tracks.

"What's going on?"

"Probably someone getting killed by monsters," the man in glasses analyzed.

Li Cheng hesitated for a moment before pressing forward.

Something felt off.

The monsters along the path completely ignored them, instead heading toward the direction of the screams.

Li Cheng smirked.

"And they call this dangerous? The Nine-Story Monster Tower isn't so bad after all."

Following the trail of monsters, they soon arrived at the tower's central plaza.

The moment they stepped inside, they were met with an astonishing sight—thousands of monsters, all shrieking and swarming in one direction.

Most of them were encircling Lin Fan.

Li Cheng's eyes lit up.

'So many monsters targeting you… Let's see if you can make it out of this one alive.' A sinister smile crept onto his face.

But just as he finished speaking, Lin Fan effortlessly sliced through a zombie in a single strike.

Li Cheng: "???"
