Chapter 51 - Chapter 52: Heloi the Serpent Lady

While others grumbled helplessly, Lin Fan seemed oblivious to their complaints. With his iron sword in hand, he continued farming monsters.

The first floor of the Nine-Story Monster Tower initially held over a thousand monsters, but thanks to Lin Fan's relentless efforts, fewer than 300 remained.

"Waaaah, I feel so bad for these monsters!"

"Brother Fan, I beg you, slow down! You're not even hurting for money, so why are you competing with us for kills?"

"This Lin Fan— he's really leaving no room for others to live!"

At first, they were afraid of the sheer number of monsters and doubted their ability to defeat them.

Now, they were terrified Lin Fan would kill them all, leaving them nothing to farm.

They couldn't wrap their heads around it—why were these 40-HP monsters, terrifying in their eyes, nothing more than fleas under Lin Fan's blade?

Could it be they'd been playing the game wrong this whole time?

As Lin Fan relentlessly culled the monsters, Li Cheng watched him, his eyes cold and calculating.

Clutching his injured arm, Li Cheng climbed to his feet and retreated to a hidden corner.

At that moment, Lin Fan was entirely focused on farming monsters and paid no attention to Li Cheng's movements.

With his iron sword, Lin Fan weaved through the horde of zombies. Before long, the number of monsters on the first floor dwindled to almost none, leaving only a few still clashing with the remaining players.

After slaying the last zombie in his path, Lin Fan let out a long breath and stored his iron sword back in his inventory.

Seeing this, Lilian swiftly finished off the last monster near her and walked toward Lin Fan.

"Master, shall we continue killing?"

"No, we're done here. Let's go," Lin Fan said as he glanced toward the spot where Li Cheng had been lying earlier.

Li Cheng was gone. Lin Fan calmly looked away.

Of course, Lilian noticed his reaction.

"Master, do you want to kill Li Cheng?" she asked quietly.

Walking ahead of Lilian, Lin Fan gave a faint "Hmm."

He wasn't surprised Lilian could sense his thoughts. As their bond deepened, they could increasingly understand each other's intentions.

The reason Lilian hadn't killed Li Cheng earlier was that she'd sensed Lin Fan didn't want to kill him—yet.

Otherwise, Li Cheng would already be dead.

"Killing him in front of so many people would give the Federation a reason to act against me," Lin Fan said casually.

"Sometimes, you have to be smart about things. While I don't care about my reputation, I also won't put myself in a position where I'm seen as unjust or dishonorable."

After all, public opinion could be a powerful weapon.

Listening to Lin Fan, Lilian tilted her head in confusion.

She didn't understand such concepts. All she knew was that Lin Fan wanted Li Cheng dead.

If that was the case, then she would ensure it happened.

The two fell silent for a while. Lin Fan led Lilian to one of the rooms on the first floor. Since the monsters had all converged in the central plaza earlier, only one or two remained in the side rooms.

Lin Fan used a torch to seal the monster spawners and then began searching for treasure chests nearby.

Lilian followed closely behind him.

"What did you get from killing the Serpent Lady earlier?" she asked, curiously poking her head around.

Lin Fan sorted the items into his inventory and then closed the chest.

"Eight pieces of serpent meat, a Serpent Lady egg, and a heart fragment," Lin Fan replied.

The serpent meat was, of course, edible. The heart fragment, on the other hand, could be used to craft a full heart. Collecting nine fragments would create a complete heart, which, when consumed, would increase Lin Fan's health bar by one unit, taking it from ten segments to eleven.

If Lin Fan could collect enough heart fragments, it was possible his base health could reach 40 segments.

But that was unlikely—heart fragments were extremely rare.

Even after killing a Serpent Lady, he had only obtained one fragment. It would probably take a long time to gather enough for a full heart.

As for the Serpent Lady egg, Lin Fan had no idea what it was for.

He emptied the contents of the treasure chest into his backpack and pulled out the Serpent Lady egg.

"What's the use of this Serpent Lady egg? Could it be…" Lin Fan muttered, only to turn and see Lilian's teary eyes staring at him.

"What's wrong?" Lin Fan put the egg back into his bag, frowning in confusion. Why was Lilian crying again for no apparent reason?

She pouted, her small lips raised high in grievance.

"That Serpent Lady egg can hatch a creature just like me. She'll also form a contract with Master," Lilian said, her voice full of indignation.

"Really?" Lin Fan's face lit up with excitement, completely ignoring how upset Lilian looked, as if she might burst into tears at any moment.

Having one Lilian had already saved Lin Fan a great deal of trouble. If the Serpent Lady had similar abilities, it would make his life even easier.

"Will the Serpent Lady be very large?" Lin Fan's eyes sparkled with curiosity.

Seeing Lin Fan's delighted expression only made Lilian want to cry more.

Still, since Lin Fan had asked a question, she could only suppress her feelings and answer, "No, the Serpent Lady will also take on a humanoid form, though she'll have some serpent-like features."

"Really?!" Lin Fan shouted excitedly.

If that were true, it would be perfect. Lin Fan had witnessed the Serpent Lady's strength firsthand—ordinary monsters wouldn't stand a chance against her.

With the Serpent Lady by his side, traversing places like Nether, the Dark Forest, or the Desert Palace would be a breeze!

Overwhelmed with joy, Lin Fan completely forgot about Lilian standing beside him.

He retrieved the Serpent Lady egg from his backpack. The egg had a similar pattern to Lilian's maid egg but was a different color. Lilian's egg had been golden, while this one was green.

After a brief hesitation, Lin Fan threw the Serpent Lady egg to the ground.

In an instant, a flash of white light burst forth, and a little green-haired girl appeared before Lin Fan.

She blinked her large eyes, staring at Lin Fan with an innocent and curious expression.

The Serpent Lady recognized Lin Fan. He was the guy who had just killed her in a single strike. But now, he was her master.

"Y-you— I-I…" The little girl stammered, struggling to find the right words.

Standing off to the side, Lilian rolled her eyes in frustration and shot the girl a sharp glare.

"Stop stammering! Just spit it out already!"

"Ah!" The Serpent Lady flinched in fear and instinctively hid behind Lin Fan, clutching his clothes as she trembled. Every so often, she peeked out at Lilian before shrinking back again, her nervous behavior endearing her to Lin Fan instantly.

"What's your name?" Lin Fan crouched down so he was at eye level with the Serpent Lady.

The little girl tilted her green-haired head, pondering for a moment.

"A name…? What's that? They always just called me… Serpent Lady," she said in a soft, sweet voice, completely unlike the fierce Serpent Lady Lin Fan had fought earlier.

Seeing her innocent demeanor, Lin Fan couldn't resist reaching out to ruffle her green hair.

"You're not just 'Serpent Lady.' I'll give you a proper name," Lin Fan said, thinking for a moment.

"How about Heloi? I think it suits you."

At the mention of the name, the little girl's eyes lit up, though she still seemed a bit shy.

"It… sounds lovely. I really like it," she said softly.

"Alright, from now on, your name is Heloi," Lin Fan said, straightening up and giving her head another affectionate pat.

Lin Fan's heart was brimming with joy. However, he completely failed to notice that Lilian, standing nearby, was already fuming with anger.
