Chapter 52: Cultivation Flowerpot
At talisman peak
"Senior Brother Yao, this is a great opportunity! With your abilities, you definitely have a chance to become the personal attendant of that direct disciple of the sect master," a few labor disciples excitedly told Yao Shifeng.
They had all witnessed Yao Shifeng's capabilities firsthand. In just two years, he had reached the second level of Qi Refinement, surpassing the vast majority of labor disciples. Everyone believed he had a strong chance.
If Yao Shifeng could become the attendant of the sect master's direct disciple, they might also benefit from his rise.
"I'm still far from that."
Yao Shifeng shook his head, though deep down, his fellow disciples' words had stirred waves in his heart. If he wanted to break free from the limitations of being a labor disciple, becoming the attendant of an inner disciple—especially a direct disciple of the sect master—was indeed a viable path.
However, a sliver of pride within him made him reluctant to serve as someone's attendant.
But what happened next shook that pride to its core. The sect master's direct disciple had personally sent an invitation.
As Yao Shifeng stared at the invitation before him, he felt his hands tremble. With just a simple acceptance, he could end his status as a labor disciple and become the attendant of a direct disciple.
Yet, a profound doubt arose in his mind—why would this direct disciple invite him? There were many others in the sect stronger than him, even among the outer disciples. Surely, there were plenty eager for such an opportunity.
"Apologies, Senior Brother He, but I am not capable enough to serve you."
In the end, Yao Shifeng expressed his refusal to the outer disciple who had delivered the invitation.
After saying this, he felt his body tremble slightly. He knew he had just turned down a great opportunity. But becoming the attendant of the sect master's direct disciple—living under someone else's shadow—was not what he wanted.
His goal was to become an inner disciple. Even if the chances were slim, he was willing to fight for it.

Meanwhile...
"Who's looking for me at this time?"
Gu Mo, who was studying a new object in the Black Mist Space, sensed the formation outside his spiritual field being triggered. He left the space immediately.
Stepping out, he saw an outer disciple waiting for him, which deepened his confusion. He didn't recognize the person and had never interacted with any outer disciples before.
"Junior Brother Gu Mo, this is an invitation from Senior Brother He. He wishes for you to become his attendant."
The outer disciple handed him a letter.
"Senior Brother He? Attendant?"
Gu Mo, completely baffled, took the invitation. As he read through the details, his brows furrowed. This Senior Brother He was actually a newly accepted direct disciple of the sect master. It wasn't strange for a direct disciple to recruit attendants, but why had he chosen him? He didn't even know this person.
More importantly, Gu Mo had no intention of becoming anyone's attendant. Without hesitation, he politely declined the invitation.
Seeing Gu Mo's refusal, the outer disciple couldn't help but show a look of regret. This was a dream opportunity for so many labor disciples, yet this one had turned it down so easily.
"What a strange situation."
Watching the outer disciple walk away, Gu Mo scratched his head.
"Junior Brother Gu Mo, it's rare to see you leave your little hideout."
Just as Gu Mo was about to return to studying the new discovery in the Black Mist Space, Yuan Niya appeared sneakily, as she always did when visiting him to avoid being seen.
"Senior Sister Yuan, do you know anything about the sect master's new direct disciple?"
Seeing Yuan Niya, Gu Mo figured she, as an inner disciple, might know more than he did.
"Of course."
Yuan Niya nodded. That junior disciple, who had only joined a few months after her, was now a rising star in the sect. However, Gu Mo had no real connection with such a person—so why was he asking?
"What? He Shaogang invited you to be his attendant?!"
Upon learning that Gu Mo had received an invitation from the sect master's direct disciple, Yuan Niya's fur instantly bristled like a startled cat.
Gu Mo was someone she had found first! She was counting on his Perfected Cleaning Technique to help her become a true disciple. If He Shaogang snatched him away, how could she not be furious?
Luckily, Gu Mo had refused. That eased her worry.
"Gu Mo, how about you become my attendant instead? I can provide you with plenty of cultivation resources!" Yuan Niya, still uneasy, quickly made an offer.
Gu Mo was too important to her right now—keeping him close was the safest option. If he became her attendant, she wouldn't have to sneak around every time she visited him.
"No way!"
Unlike his polite refusal to He Shaogang, Gu Mo bluntly rejected Yuan Niya without hesitation. She needed him, so he wasn't afraid of offending her. Besides, as an inner disciple, Yuan Niya probably wasn't strong enough to defeat him.
"Hmph!"
Hearing his response, Yuan Niya let out a cold snort. But, as Gu Mo had guessed, she couldn't do anything about it.
Following Gu Mo back into the house, Yuan Niya later left his spiritual field with trembling steps. Watching her retreating figure, Gu Mo felt a bit uneasy—too many people were showing up around his valley. If someone saw them together, it would be impossible to explain.
After confirming that Yuan Niya had completely left, Gu Mo returned to his small house, preparing to continue studying the latest discovery inside the Black Mist Space.
Over the past few days, as he continuously dispelled the black mist using Solar Essence, a section of the mist had finally cleared. There, he found a shelf. The shelf itself wasn't special, but what caught his attention was a flowerpot placed on it.
The moment Gu Mo laid eyes on the flowerpot, a translucent screen appeared before him, displaying a single line of text:
[Cultivation Flowerpot]
"A cultivation flowerpot? Does it mean this pot is used to cultivate plants?"
Gu Mo's mind raced. Without delay, he left the Black Mist Space and dug up a Sunflower from his spiritual field. He then transplanted it into the flowerpot.
As soon as the Sunflower was placed inside, the translucent screen changed. It now displayed the plant's attributes, and next to the "Quality" field, a small upward-pointing arrow appeared.
Seeing this, Gu Mo immediately understood—this flowerpot could enhance a plant's quality.
However, the arrow was currently gray, indicating that the conditions for the Sunflower's upgrade were not yet met. What did it need to evolve?
His first thought was Solar Essence. He placed several portions of Solar Essence into the flowerpot, and as the essence disappeared, a faint green light began to appear at the base of the gray arrow.
"That's a relief..."
Seeing this, Gu Mo let out a long sigh of relief. If upgrading the Sunflower required rare and exotic spiritual herbs, he would have been in trouble. But since it still relied on Solar Essence, things were much more manageable.
