Chapter 8- A Friend's True Color

Lilith~~

I was never pregnant.

I was the one who fooled everyone.

And I did it all because I hated her.

From the moment we were children, Selene had everything I wanted. Beauty. Strength. Love. Even when she wasn't trying, things simply fell into her lap. Meanwhile, I had to scrape and claw for every little thing. And even when I did, it was never enough.

She was the beloved daughter of Gregor Callista, a respected Beta. She was the future Luna of the pack. She was loved, cherished, adored. But what was I? A nobody. Just a shadow trailing behind her, pretending to be her friend.

Yes, we were best friends—on the surface. But in my heart, I despised her.

I didn't just want what Selene had. I wanted to take it from her.

Especially her mate, Alpha Damian Blackwood.

Damian was powerful, feared, and desired by every female in the pack. And yet, he was bound to Selene, the Luna-to-be. The thought of it made my blood boil. Why should she get him? Why should she have a mate who would cherish her, while I was left with nothing?

I had to change that.

And I did.

It started with small things. Sweet words whispered in Damian's ears. Accidental touches. Lingering stares. I saw how his eyes began to wander, how his loyalty to Selene started to waver. But it wasn't enough. I needed more. I needed to make him mine completely.

So, I seduced him.

It wasn't difficult. Despite his love for Selene, he was still a man. And men are weak when it comes to temptation. I made sure to be everywhere he was, to look irresistible, to make him think he needed me.

The first time we slept together, I knew I had him.

And yet, it wasn't enough.

Because even after sharing his bed, I could see the hesitation in his eyes. He still felt guilty. He still cared for Selene. And I hated that. I needed something stronger. Something that would bind him to me forever.

A child.

If I carried Damian's pup, there would be no going back. He would have no choice but to leave Selene and choose me.

But fate was cruel.

No matter how many times we were together, no matter how hard I tried, I didn't get pregnant. It was as if my body was rejecting the one thing I needed the most.

Desperation drove me to Moriah.

Moriah, the wise pack elder. The woman Selene trusted the most. The woman Selene ran to when she needed guidance, when she was at her weakest. The only one Selene confided in when she made the foolish decision to run away.

Selene believed Moriah was her friend. But Moriah had never been her friend.

From the very beginning, Moriah wanted Selene gone just as much as I did. She only played the role of a kind elder to keep Selene close, to watch her suffer.

And I loved that about her.

When I told Moriah about my struggle, she gave me a wicked smile.

"Then we will give them what they want to see," she said. "If your body refuses to carry the child, we will make them believe you already have."

I was hesitant at first. What if we were caught?

But Moriah reassured me. "Men are fools, Lilith. They see what they want to see. And Damian wants to see you as his future, as the mother of his heir. He will believe it, because he needs to."

With her help, we forged a pregnancy test. The moment Damian saw the results, his face lit up with joy.

I had him.

From that moment on, Damian did anything I asked. He no longer touched Selene. He barely even looked at her.

But it still wasn't enough.

Because even though he stayed away, Selene was still standing. Still breathing. Still smiling.

I couldn't have that.

So, I told Damian to tell Selene about the pregnancy himself. I wanted to see her face when she realized she had lost everything.

And when he did, I savored every moment of it.

I watched as Selene's eyes widened, as the light in them flickered.

"She's lying," Selene whispered.

I laughed. Of course, she would say that.

But Damian didn't believe her. He was already mine.

Still, it wasn't enough.

I needed to break her completely.

So, I whispered in Damian's ear. I told him that Selene was envious. That she was cruel. That she would try to harm me, to harm the baby.

And like a fool, he believed me.

From that day on, every time Selene so much as looked at me the wrong way, I would pretend to cry.

"She pushed me," I would say. "She wants to hurt me!"

And Damian, filled with blind rage, would storm off to punish her.

I heard the slaps, the crashes, the sound of Selene's muffled cries. And I smiled.

I wanted her broken. And I was getting exactly what I wanted.

But then, Damian made a mistake.

He wanted to announce the pregnancy to the entire pack.

I couldn't let that happen.

If the pack started watching me closely, they would realize the truth. I would be exposed.

So, I ran to Moriah.

"We have to stop him," I whispered. "He can't make the announcement."

Moriah thought for a moment before her lips curled into a sinister smile.

"Then we will give them a tragedy to mourn instead."

And together, we came up with a plan.

I would miscarry.

But not just any miscarriage—I needed someone to blame. Someone Damian already hated. Someone he was already looking for a reason to get rid of.

Selene.

It was perfect.

Moriah played her part well. She acted like Selene's only friend, listened to her cry, pretended to comfort her. She even got Selene to admit she wanted to run away.

The moment I heard that, I knew—this was it.

If Selene ran, she might come back. She might fight for her life. I couldn't let that happen. I needed to end her once and for all.

So we put the plan into motion.

The day of the announcement, Moriah brought me a drink. She said it was from Selene. I smiled, knowing it was time.

"It's from Selene," she said with a smile.

I took it eagerly.

And just like that, it had begun.

I ran back to my room, grabbed the bottle of thick red liquid I had prepared, and poured it down my legs. The moment I stepped back into the hall, I let out a blood-curdling scream.

Chaos erupted.

People rushed to my side, gasping in horror as the fake blood dripped onto the floor.

"I—I was poisoned," I sobbed, gripping my stomach.

"How did it happened.?" Damien asked as he hold me while I fake cried on him.

"I do not know, someone gave me a drink which I drank and it happened immediately I drank it." I cried more.

Damian's rage became stronger.

He demanded a healer.

No," I whispered. "Moriah… I need Moriah…"

And right on cue, she arrived.

"She's miscarrying," Moriah announced.

"It's too late," she declared. "The baby is gone."

Damian saw red.

The room went silent.

Then—

A roar of fury shook the hall.

"Who did this?!" Damian thundered.

I looked up at him, tears streaming down my face. My voice was soft, broken.

"Selene… she wanted me and the baby dead."

Damian's eyes burned with hatred. His fists clenched. His entire body trembled with fury.

"She will burn for this."

I almost moaned in pleasure at the sound of those words.

Finally.

Selene was as good as dead.

And I?

I was finally free. Free to take everything she had.

Her mate. Her future. Her life.

And if anyone dared to stand in my way?

They would burn alongside her.
