Chapter 13: Into the Night
Aarav's breath came slow and steady as he reached forward. His fingers hovered over Veyron's outstretched hand, the final moment before stepping into the unknown.
Seraphina's grip on his arm tightened. "Aarav… don't do this."
Selene, for once, remained silent. Watching. Waiting.
Aarav met Seraphina's gaze. "I need to know the truth."
Something flickered in her crimson eyes—anger, hurt, maybe even fear. But she didn't stop him. She just released his arm and stepped back.
Aarav grasped Veyron's hand.
The moment their palms touched, a sudden surge of energy shot through him. His vision blurred, and for an instant, he wasn't in the mansion anymore.
—Dark corridors lit by torchlight. A throne of obsidian. Figures kneeling before him, whispering his name—Kairos.
A scream. Blood on his hands.
A promise. A betrayal. A death.
Then—darkness.
Aarav gasped, yanked back into reality. His knees nearly buckled, but Veyron steadied him with an amused smile. "Visions, I see. Good. Your past is waking up."
Aarav inhaled sharply. "What… what was that?"
Veyron didn't answer. Instead, he turned toward the open doorway. "Come. We have much to do."
Aarav glanced back at Seraphina and Selene one last time.
Seraphina's expression was unreadable, but her voice was heavy. "Be careful, Aarav."
Selene smirked. "Try not to die, newbie. Or do. Either way, it'll be interesting."
Aarav managed a small, tense smile before stepping past them.
The night air was cold against his skin as he followed Veyron into the shadows.
The mansion behind him faded into the mist.
His old life was over.
Whatever lay ahead—he would face it.
Because the truth was waiting.
And he was ready.
To be continued…
