Chapter 20 - Ball Boy to Master Blaster

For me personally, there are a lot of legends in Cricket, just not one! However, one man deserves to get a special note is SRT!

Another most eventful memory during the decade of 1980s is the debut of the Little Master, often referred to as God of Cricket, Sachin ramesh Tendulkar.

Sachin Tendulkar was born on April 24, 1973, in Bombay, India. Introduced to cricket at age 11, Tendulkar was just 16 when he became India's youngest Test cricketer.

Sachin Tendulkar had a taste for cricket right from the very childhood which both his father and elder brother supporting his interest whole heartedly. He started his formal cricketing career at the age of 11 and made his Ranji Trophy debut in 1988 thus making his international test debut in 1989 against the arch rivals Pakistan.

Sachin confesses that his first World Cup action was during the 1987 edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup ( Reliance World Cup), which was co-hosted by India and Pakistan.

Sachin Tendulkar & his close friend Vinod Kambli, then both were 14-year-old, was selected as a ball boy for the 1987 World Cup matches, held at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. This was Tendulkar's first time watching a World Cup match in a stadium. Both were given their due because of their extraordinary performances in inter school cricket.

Tendulkar, who was 10 years old during the 1983 World Cup, has often spoken about how the victory inspired him to take up cricket more seriously.

Another most surprising and lesser-known facts in cricket history is that Sachin Tendulkar once fielded for Pakistan during an exhibition match!

In 1987, at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, an exhibition game between Pakistan and India was organised as part of Pakistan's tour of India.

14-year-old Sachin Tendulkar was part of the ground staff when Javed Miandad and Imran Khan requested a substitute fielder. Young Sachin got the opportunity to field for Pakistan for a brief period!

Though he didn't get to do much, years later, Tendulkar humorously recalled this incident!
