"Arianna, it's not just about not wanting to get married," I began, pulling back from the hug to look her in the eyes. "The Maureens want to control me, to turn me into their puppet."
Arianna's expression shifted from excitement to concern. "What do you mean?"
"They're trying to trap me," I explained, my voice trembling. "Marrying into their family means giving up my freedom. They want to control every aspect of my life."
"Cassy, relax. It's just a first impression," they both said, and I decided to let the issue drop.
"So…"
"Let's go clubbing!"
"What!?" I raised my eyebrows in surprise.
"To celebrate!" Nadia said with a grin, and Arianna nodded enthusiastically.
I hesitated for a moment, still processing everything that had happened. "I don't know…"
"Oh come on, Cassy!" Arianna urged, grabbing my hand. "You need to let loose. It'll be fun!"
Nadia chimed in, teasingly. "Plus, it's been forever since we danced together. Remember how we used to tear up the dance floor?"
