The Defense Against the Dark Arts class is meant to teach students how to defend against dark magic and evil creatures, making it one of the most popular courses at Hogwarts.
The first-year Defense Against the Dark Arts class, however, is incredibly dull. Quirinus Quirrell, that incompetent fool, really lacks any skills or abilities. His classes mostly cover basic methods for dealing with minor creatures, and after that...
He completely failed as a teacher. It's rumored that this guy is now playing hide-and-seek with Dementors in Azkaban.
This year's Defense Against the Dark Arts professor is Gilderoy Lockhart, who is supposedly an internationally renowned figure—although that's debatable.
It's quite interesting that both Quirrell and Lockhart graduated from Ravenclaw.
Unfortunately, these two are considered failed products from Ravenclaw. One joined the Death Eaters out of fear, and the other is nothing more than a big liar!
Gilderoy Lockhart is an internationally renowned author and "hero," a recipient of the Order of Merlin, an honorary member of the Anti-Dark Magic League, and a five-time winner of the "Wizard Weekly" Most Charming Smile Award.
He has written numerous books and is quite famous in the wizarding world. Of course, the stories are all stolen from others.
Noah thinks many people should know by now that these stories were never his to begin with, as his magical ability is subpar at best.
But the wizarding world is never short of clowns, and there's always someone willing to turn a blind eye to the truth for the sake of entertainment.
The truth is, this guy has a talent for casting forgetfulness charms, so no one can prove what he's done. It must be said that Lockhart is quite lucky.
"Dear students, allow me to introduce myself!"
As Lockhart strutted down from the platform, Noah and the others collectively rolled their eyes.
Noah knew the truth about this man, and Kenn's family had also mentioned some things about him, such as "Lockhart's words can't be trusted," and so on.
Their parents weren't thrilled that they were in the same class as this guy—even if they weren't in the same class, they probably knew him. It was clear that they didn't think much of him, likely because they were aware of his character.
"My parents said this guy is very unreliable and lies all the time. God, how did he become our Defense Against the Dark Arts professor?" Evan propped his head up, staring at Lockhart, who was endlessly bragging about himself. He muttered lifelessly.
"This is pathetic. This guy is from Ravenclaw, of all places. God," Lance said with a frown, clearly not liking the man at all.
"I said, you guys should be quiet. Is he really that bad? Besides, even if he's bad, he must have some good points. Otherwise, I don't think Professor Dumbledore would have chosen him, right?" Hermione said, sounding somewhat dissatisfied.
"Well, don't worry about him. Professor Dumbledore has his own reasons, and we have our own opinions. Although his books are nonsense, they can at least help pass the time. If you have the ability to make him look bad, go ahead. It doesn't really matter," Noah interrupted the argument at the right time. It was boring to argue over a liar.
If Noah remembered correctly, this man would make a fool of himself soon enough, and Noah noticed that it wasn't just them who were unhappy with him. Students from other houses were also giving Lockhart baffled looks.
Perhaps realizing he had bragged too much, Lockhart quickly ended his self-introduction. "Well, for today's class, let's start with a small test."
As he said this, he came down with a stack of test papers and began handing them out to the students' desks. "This test is very simple; it's just to see if you've read the book carefully. Let's see how many of you can fill it out correctly."
After receiving the test paper from this man, Noah took one look and immediately lost all desire to write. All the questions on the paper were about Lockhart himself!
Though Noah liked reading, that did not include this man's books.
"What is Gilderoy Lockhart's favorite color?" Evan whispered as he stared at the test paper, immediately losing his desire to write, just like Noah.
"What is Gilderoy Lockhart's greatest achievement so far?" Lance glanced at the paper, then simply pressed it down, not even bothering to write.
In fact, it wasn't just them—everyone's face looked sour. Who would read this nonsense for fun? Even if there were fans of his books, few would actually remember these details. Even Hermione was frowning at the questions.
Although she liked Lockhart somewhat, she wasn't blindly loyal to him anymore after hanging out with Noah and the others. She didn't have time to read his books over the summer. She'd read a lot of other material, but none of it had anything to do with this man.
Even if she'd spent some time reading Lockhart's books, she treated them as a simple distraction, so she couldn't remember any of this trivia.
"You have 30 minutes. Start!"
As Lockhart spoke, all the students picked up their pens.
But their faces were full of bitterness, as it was clear none of them had any clue how to answer. But soon, they realized they didn't have time to dawdle.
"Noah, what should we do?" Evan looked at the test paper, bewildered. This was a disaster.
"What else can we do? Just fill it out." Noah rolled his eyes. Was there really any other choice?
This guy was truly a disaster. Noah rarely complained about Dumbledore, but today was different.
It didn't matter. After writing a bunch of nonsense, Noah handed in the paper. He didn't expect to learn anything from this guy, so he just did the bare minimum.
As expected, half an hour later, when Noah and his friends handed in their papers, Lockhart looked very disappointed.
It was clear that none of the students had done well. Even those who had been top scorers last semester, along with the top ten in their grade, couldn't answer the questions correctly!
What's worse, their correct answers were frighteningly few.
What did this show?
It showed that none of them had actually read his books!
This made Lockhart very angry, but unfortunately, he didn't dare say anything.
Not only did he know Evan and the others' parents from their time at school, but he didn't want to make things worse. After all, Dumbledore had explicitly told him not to embarrass Noah, so he didn't dare make a scene.
Although he didn't understand why Dumbledore had said that, Lockhart didn't dare to oppose it.
He knew full well that he was just a mediocre wizard who relied on Memory Charms (Obliviate) to cover his tracks. If he clashed with Dumbledore, he'd be in serious trouble.
"What a bunch of annoying brats!"
