TWO WEEKS LATER
The background roar filled the air, but I wasn't here. I haven't been here. I'm always blank. I have been that way for two weeks. It's been two weeks since I left everything behind, two weeks since I promised myself to distance myself from my longtime friend—my only male friend. And though it was heart-wrenching, we once had a strong reason to stay close, a reason now fractured beyond repair.
Ezekiel, too—my boss at The Blood Den Arena. I had done everything to avoid him, and it seemed to be going perfectly. But deep down, I knew better. I knew it was only a matter of time. If he wanted me, he would always find a way, no matter the circumstances.
Despite distancing myself, I couldn't shake off the fact that I was haunted by everything—Ezekiel's claim, Roman's betrayal, and Alexis' sudden absence. The weight of the situation gnawed at me heavily, like it was mocking me, leaving me restless and volatile.
