Chapter 59 - chapter 59

The surviving humans built the last altar near this volcano, which is what Ryan saw. It is the only surviving altar in the whole of Iceland; all others were destroyed in the war.

They initially used this altar to communicate with the surrounding environment. However, except for the wizard and his disciples, the rest of the humans, consumed by hatred, committed suicide and desecrated the altar, turning it from a natural altar into a blood altar.

Using the resentment from the loss of life, the Viking wizard communicated the powerful energies beneath the nearby volcano. He contaminated this power through the temporary blood altar and guided it out.

After absorbing the polluted energy, the wizard and his disciples temporarily gained immense power, which broke the barrier between the world where Ryan is now and the real world. The magical creatures were then brought into this world.

With the barrier broken, except for this small space, the rest of the world was filled with intense spatial turbulence. Most magical creatures were caught in the turbulence and perished, while the survivors fought fierce battles with the wizards.

In the end, the Viking wizard consumed the only treasure he had left from his homeland: the blood of a mythical giant wolf. He transformed into a giant wolf and died alongside some of the most powerful magical creatures that remained.

Over time, the spatial turbulence subsided. However, the ghosts of the dead still linger in this world. Ryan is here because numerous sunlight crystals and plants of various colors, released into the real world, activated the resentful souls in this realm. Once the souls awoke, they performed ritual magic in accordance with the obsessions of their past lives, bringing Ryan into this world.

As they are wraiths, their instinct is to attack all living creatures, which forced Ryan to fight them.

Ryan also discovered that this world lies between the real and the unreal, but it leans more towards the soul world. Thus, plants like him cannot be released here, and his body, influenced by the soul's age, has reverted to being about 20 years old.

After absorbing this memory, Ryan woke up. He sighed at the end of the human race and the hardships and sacrifices endured through the mountains and forests. He dug a pit under the altar where he found the remains and bowed respectfully three times, showing respect for these human pioneers. Although he didn't agree with the wizard's choice to sacrifice his people and indulge in wanton killing.

Clearly, the first group of humans who landed on the island sacrificed themselves but also wiped out more than 90% of the magical creatures there. This allowed later humans to successfully settle on the island. Despite the magical effect causing later humans to forget that a previous group of humans had arrived and sacrificed themselves, this sacrifice ensured the survival of future generations. At the time, it was common to assume a shipwreck had occurred after a ship went missing at sea, especially since there were no floo networks, no Apparition, or even broomsticks.

After lamenting the lost truth, Ryan carefully reviewed the memories he had absorbed, searching for a way to escape. As he cleared his thoughts, he realized he had gained a new ability—life magic, mastered by the Viking wizard.

Indeed, it was life magic, not imaginary undead magic. The Viking wizard was a shaman in his time, a wizard who communicated with nature, life, and death to gain power. However, due to his madness, all magic related to nature was erased, leaving only the life magic that dealt with life and death.

This life magic was divided into two aspects: body and soul. Ryan carefully studied the inheritance and found that, in reality, these magics were neither inherently good nor evil; they were simply the power of life and death.

If used for good, this magic could heal the sick, strengthen the body, soothe the soul, and exorcise evil spirits. It also possessed a great deal of power to combat twisted and unnatural life.

However, if used for evil purposes, the magic could enslave souls, reanimate corpses, and even create twisted monsters.

At first, Ryan thought these monsters were the epitome of evil, and he was deeply repulsed by the magic that could create such horrors. But after reading the details carefully, Ryan hesitated. On one hand was his desire for power, but on the other was his fear of the consequences if the magic got out of control.

After brief contemplation, Ryan chose to accept the knowledge. After all, he now possessed the Myriad Realms grocery store, and he would see countless worlds and countless powers in the future. He had to be prepared for anything.

What's more, he discovered that this power wasn't inherently evil. It simply reflected the user's inclinations, showing different outcomes based on their intent. This aligned with much of the magic Ryan had learned at Hogwarts, so there was no immediate cause for concern.

For example, everyday spells like the Levitation Charm might seem harmless, but if one were to use it on a person and then remove the spell, the result would be the same as casting the Killing Curse.

This principle reminded Ryan of an old saying from his past life: You should never stop eating just because you once choked on food.

After resolving this dilemma, Ryan focused on studying the contents of the inheritance, hoping to find a way to return to the real world.

This world was not the one created by the Viking wizard, as Ryan had once believed. Instead, the wizard used the power of nature to isolate a small portion of the original world for his personal use. Over time, and with the fading of the resentful spirits, the power of the barrier gradually dissipated, making it much easier for Ryan to leave.

The true nature of this world was a spiritual realm composed of the consciousness of all natural life. It was also a core part of the world consciousness, or Gaia consciousness. This world was not lifeless; many spiritual beings inhabited it.

Some wizards who were sensitive to the soul or nature could easily enter this world. Occasionally, some Muggles would also stumble into this realm by chance. Many myths and stories were born from these ordinary people's encounters in this world.

Having absorbed the inheritance, Ryan quickly mastered the method of entering and leaving this world. After performing the necessary gesture and chanting the spell, Ryan successfully exited the world.
