The next day, I woke up later than the previous days; instead of being met with a cold shower, I was welcomed by a hot and relaxing bath. I was sprayed with perfumes, and as for my breakfast, it was served in my bedroom.
Everything was going smoothly.
After a quick and very sweet breakfast, I was bursting with energy. I felt more clear-headed than ever, my vision felt sharper, and I was exploding with expectations.
Today was the first day I was going to be introduced to other kids.
After putting on the white uniform, I hurriedly ran downstairs, ignoring both my parents sitting at the lunch table along with Elena, and made the maids accompanying me rush towards the school.
That day was foggy as always, yet the pure white buildings were still able to be seen through the thick fog thanks to their special glow.
The car stopped right in front of the school's gate. There I saw some students heading inside, all accompanied by their own bodyguard or servants, some with servants' bodyguards showing their faces, and some others with maids or butlers with their faces covered.
One thing I immediately noticed was that none of the bodyguards or servants had colors, no servant had his or her face exposed, and most bodyguards were male; I was the only one bringing along a maskless maid.
Mmh, is this going to cause trouble?
As we got out of the car, I was expecting some level of attention; after all, I was the odd one out. While most kids had brown, blonde, or black-colored hair, I was the one who stood out with bright red hair. My bodyguard was also dressed as a maid and had cat-like ears and a tail.
Instead of being the center of the attention like I expected, I was ignored; lots of the kids around me seemed barely awake, some were talking to their friends, and the rest were simply doing their own thing, whether it was listening to music or sleeping while getting carried on the back of their bodyguard.
Even the lack of reaction felt incredibly surprising; usually in my old school I was flocked with attention the moment I crossed the gates and entered the school.
I forgot, the people here are as influential, if not way more, than my family… I doubt they'll be easily moved by my family name or my red hair.
I tried taking a deep breath to fully immerse myself in that environment and quickly regretted it; the smell of the cloud was really unpleasant.
"What the hell? Why does it smell so bad here?" I asked the maid as I turned around to check the origin of the smell.
"That's… It would be best not to say it out loud." The maid answered.
She seemed uncomfortable for whatever reason, looking left and right anxiously.
Oh, come on, what are you worried about now of all times? Let's just enjoy this day.
I put any worries aside and happily marched towards the school.
Now that I think about it, I don't even know what class I have been assigned to. I was too excited to check. If I ask the maid, she would surely know… right? It would be humiliating for me to get lost in the school on my first day.
After a couple of steps, I saw the maid playfully hopping in front of me, looking backwards with a disgusted expression. Naturally I turned around to see what was happening only to see a blonde teenager behind her.
He was over a head taller than me, dressed in the white uniform. A couple of long black stripes were on the side of his uniform, stretching over his arms, traveling through his back, and reaching his heels.
He had purple eyes, a piercing right under the lower lip, and one on the right side of his nose. He was also overweight, with his short neck completely covered by his fat. He didn't seem all too happy.
"Oi, haven't you taught your maid manners?" He asked me.
I looked around to make sure he was talking to me.
"Yeah, you, don't feign ignorance with me. Why did your maid just avoid my touch?" He complained while pointing at me.
Is he picking a fight with me? On the first day? Really?
I ignored him and headed to the school's entrance.
"You…" The fat guy's face had turned completely red from anger; he probably didn't have good intentions. He raised his hand, and the maid standing next to me immediately reacted by lunging herself at him, holding a knife she took out from beneath her skirt.
When I checked the situation, it was already too late; the situation had already escalated. Everyone was looking at them. The maid was standing proudly behind the blonde pig, glaring at him, holding three knives in her right hand.
The bodyguard of that young master had shielded him using his body and now had six of those knives stuck to his right arm, which he used to shield his master's neck; he also had a couple of daggers stuck to his back.
"Do you have any idea who you're messing with? Are you really going to pick a fight over a measly maid? Is this what happened to your brain after living among the land-dwellers all your life?" The pig was quick to regain his composure.
The bodyguards around him and his other friend stepped forward and stomped the ground pretty loudly, making the whole area tremble.
Haaa, it's too late to fix. I shouldn't have ignored him. My bad. Now how do I deal with this? Should I just pretend not to have seen anything? No, maybe the correct course of action would be to apologize… Fuck that.
"Oi, you've done enough; come back here, don't make the situation worse." I said to the maid.
To appease the angry kid, I decided to seem a bit harsh to the bodyguard. Striking the top of her head with a karate chop.
Apologies in advance; this is just to get this annoying tub of lard out of our way. I'll apologize ten times later, okay? Just go along with it for now.
I prayed for the maid to pick up on the hint; thankfully, she did, and she came back to my side pouting. I wanted her to bow down and apologize, but that would've probably been out of the question for her.
"Ahem! Well… We can forget this… incident, yeah, we can put it behind us." I didn't know what to say; I was trying to sound posh, but I simply couldn't find the right words to apologize for the unfortunate event.
Hold on… Why am I apologizing? He was the one who had anger issues, fuck you!
"I don't know what I did to anger you; I don't care to be honest. If you're not happy with my apology, you're free to keep fighting with my bodyguard; that's all." I was slowly getting more frustrated with the situation; the people standing around us and looking were not making the situation any easier for me.
"Oi, what do you think you're doing here? You can't just—"
"Do you know where my class is?" I whispered to the maid as we rapidly headed away from the scene.
"Yes." The maid responded.
She didn't call me young master; she must still be pretty angry…
Oh, come on, it's not like I'm going to start a war in front of the school. I'm just trying to keep things peaceful. I wouldn't want to be known for being some sort of thug. What will become of my image? People will think that people from the surface are a bunch of gangsters.
"Lead the way, then… please." I ordered, trying to look as composed as possible in front of all the other kids.
"Oi!" The pig tried to call my attention, but I ignored it.
"You little shit, if you think—"
"Whatever, man, I don't give a fuck. Now leave me the fuck alone; I already apologized!" Pissed, I gave him a piece of my mind before heading to my classroom.
The classroom was located on the third floor of the building; there were no elevators, so I had to climb up a set of stairs in the most inconvenient place. They were located at the intersection between the gym building and the school, which was on the opposite side of where my class was.
Inside were just a couple of students chatting in the mostly empty classroom; they were sitting at the front tables. The interiors of the class were highly futuristic; it was technology I had never seen elsewhere. The tables had displays attached in the center of the seat that were also touch screens; on the sides of the tables were the many ports to connect other devices to it.
The couple of people present in the classroom looked to be a bit smaller than me in height; one had a couple of golden earrings attached to his right ear and golden markings on the back of his neck.
He had red hair; his long, straight hair reached up to his shoulders, but it wasn't like mine; it seemed a lighter shade of orange and wasn't as bright as mine. He had blue eyes and thin lips.
His friend, on the other hand, was a little more plain-looking, with dark brown hair. Unlike his friend, he had short hair, dark eyes, and dark bags under his eyes.
The brown-haired kid was lying face down on the table; his friend was standing next to him, leaning on the table as they were speaking.
"I bet you stayed up all night trying that new game." The red-headed guy said to his friends, mocking him for his dark bags.
"Yep, now I'm kind of starting to regret it. At least now you won't be able to beat me as easily. I've already learned and memorized some absurd combos; you'll see it." His friend responded, smiling at him.
"You always say stuff like this, but the result is still the same. You've just got to admit, as a gamer, I was simply born better." The other arrogantly said.
They both fell silent and turned to me when I closed the door of the classroom. The atmosphere was awkward; I didn't know what to do, and they were staring at me pretty intently.
"Hi?" I greeted them while awkwardly raising my hand. I had nothing else to say; the maid standing right behind me did a very audible facepalm.
I did my best! Okay? Let's leave it at that!
"Oh, you're the son of the Scarlet Devil! What… ehm…" My sudden appearance seemed to have caught them off guard. While the redhead was trying to clear his throat, his friend adjusted his posture and began using his hands to fix his hair.
"I heard about the uniqueness of your… hair, but it's even more impressive in person. I never imagined some hair could glow like yours does." The outgoing guy uttered while his friend was pulling him by the sleeve nervously.
