Third person pov~
The girl was crazy.
At least that was how Barry and Paul perceived it, nothing she said made sense to them and her unusual speech pattern made it even more difficult to communicate effectively with her.
"Yer impossible to deal with."
"Why art thou standing in thine face?"
"Where is Baurbius?"
She went on and on babbling about things neither Barry nor Paul wanted to understand. They just stood, stared at her and very occasionally exchanged knowing looks at each other. After a while of nonsense talking, Barry had had enough, he interrupted the chattering Athelia by placing his hands forcefully on her mouth but then something unexpected happened.
The moment his hand touched her mouth, he was propelled backwards and went flying. He crashed into a wall and landed with a thud on the floor. Peter watched the scene unfold with wide eyes, surprised.
"Y..you just sent him flying. Do you have any idea who he is?" Peter yelled but the girl was unfazed. She did not look like she cared.
Barry grunted, obviously in pain, he was slammed against the wall pretty hard.
"Do not touch me, human." Athelia scowled, staring right at Barry whow as struggling to get on his feet. She left the room without another word.
Peter hurried to Barry's side and helped him stand upright. They went over to the bed Athelia had been sleeping on and Barry sat on it. He has a calculating smile plastered all over his face.
" She's crazy." Peter said. Barry only chuckled, all that was on his mind was how Athelia had managed to effortlessly throw him to literally the other side of the room. She barely touched him but something pushed him away, making him fly.
"Interesting."
Athelia had left the residence, Barry's father had assisted her in finding the exit of the building and she was now in the town. She walked though the town in confident strides, as if she knew where she was going.
She did not.
The scenery was foreign to her and she realized soon that navigating her way through the island was not as simple as she had thought it would be. She made her way back to the residence she had left earlier. She was able to figure her way back thanks to her good memory. The five person she encountered at the residence was the man who had helped her find the exit. His face fell when he saw her bu she ignored him and continued on her way.
She finally got back to the room that kept her refuge for the days she was unconscious. Barry and Peter were still in the room, Peter was tending to Barry as he had bruised his back when she sent him flying backwards earlier. She walked up to them and even though they noticed her, they pretended like they did not.
"Where is Baurbius?" She asked the moment they were within hearing range.
The looked at her with the same confusion that was expressed the first time she asked that question.
"Who in the heavens is that? I've never heard of a Baurbius before." Peter said, sounding slightly annoyed. He looked at Athelia with disdain and she noticed, she did not like the way he looked at her. She did not like the way he made her feel.
"You will address me with respect, human. Do you not know who I am?"
"Athelia , daughter of blah blah, princess yappa yappa. I do not know what any of that means. Where are your guardians? Your family? We couldn't find anyone while you were unconscious." Peter said.
"You remembered my name?" Athelia blinked, her eyes widened. In a shy movement, she brushed her hair behind her ear and looked down. She glanced at peter who was still looking at her with irk and immediately lowered her gaze, blushing slightly, only so slightly that no one noticed.
"Do you have guardians, Athelia?" Barry asked, still seated on the bed.
Athelia's eyes met his and her blush immediately disappeared. Her eyes turned cold and nonchalant as she looked at Barry.
"Of course, I do not have guardians in the human realm, stupid. Is that not obvious? I came here in search of my brother, Baurbius." She said, her gaze, demeaning.
"Poor thing, she's an orphan." Barry whispered to Peter, "She probably tried killing herself but was unsuccessful and that was how we found her."
"But that does not explain how no one on the island knows who she is. No neighbors or acquaintance." Peter whispered back.
"I'm sure she has a story."
"You don't think she's from out of the island, do you?" Peter asked and Barry flinched.
"That's impossible, Peter. There is no life outside this village. You know that. We all know that."
Peter nodded but he was still suspicious about it. He had never believed the whole lore surrounding the island, he had been friends with Barry for the longest time and Barry always acted strangely when it came to the island and their traditions so he knew that something was up.
The first time he saw Athelia and confirmed that no one knew where she was from, he suspected her coming from another island, or a faraway land but when he told Barry about his suspicions, Barry shot him down immediately and told him not to think too much about stuffs like that. He thought it was suspicious how defensive Barry was being.
And she called them humans, as if she was not one herself. Her eyes and hair color was weird, and she looked frail so how could she have thrown muscular Barry off his feet into a wall. She hardly moved when he flew off. Peter was suspicious, very suspicious.
"Athelia, do you want to stay here for a while?" Barry offered and Athelia did not speak. She simply stared at them, looking between Barry and Peter.
After some seconds of intense staring, she finally nodded. "Very well. I shall stay here for a few days."
Barry smiled and told her the room was hers for as long as she wished to stay, he assigned her a personal maid to tend to her needs while he and Peter left the room.
"Don't you have to get home?" He asked Peter the moment they stepped out of the room.
Peter got the message, Barry wanted him gone, "Yh," he nodded and began walking towards the exit, "see you later."
"See you later."
Peter left and Barry made his way to his father to inquire more. Like Peter, he had his suspicions, he did not believe that Athelia was from freedis island, he did not even believe she was human. Her entire demeanor and appearance gave it off. She was not from around here. He suspected his father knew something, after all, his father knew a lot, a lot of secrets about Freedis island as well as a lot of secrets about the outside world.
He found his father in his personal library, where he always is whenever he needs his personal space. His father looked up from the book he was reading as he heard the creak of the door, he saw Barry enter and he braced himself for another bout of argument.
He and Barry had been arguing about Athelia since the moment Barry brought her into the resident. No matter how many times he told Barry to g take the girl away from their house, Barry was adamant on keeping her. He knew his son, Barry had fallen for the girl, he saw it in his eyes, the lust behind them but he knew better, he knew that the girl was not something Barry could control and Barry needed a partner he could control.
Barry walked into the library with his father's eyes never leaving him.
"Tell me everything you know."
"What makes you think I know anything?" His father asked, eye contact between them was still intense.
"Because you were so adamant on getting her to leave. What do you know about her?"
"Be straightforward, Barry. What do you want to know? What are you suspicious about?" He smirked, he knew Barry was desperate. As much as he wanted her, he would not do anything to jeopardize himself, or at least that was what he thought.
"Athelia."
"What about her?"
"Who is she?"
"And how am I supposed to know that?" His father raised an eyebrow but Barry knew he was playing games with him. He knew his father knew something about Athelia that no one knew about, something secretive that no one should know about. Just like the secret behind the chosen, and the history of the island and the cave, there was something about Athelia, a secret about her.
"Father, I need to know. I'm the next village head. I should know." Barry moved closer to his father, the distance between them less than an inch. His father towered over Barry as Barry looked up just to maintain eye contact with his father.
His father finally sighed and took a few steps back, "That girl," he slapped his palm across his face, "she's a god."
