Chapter 7 - Quirk Apprehension Test (1/2)

Hello, everyone! Subaru71077 here. As I mentioned before, my laptop broke, and I've been writing the chapters on my phone. Unfortunately, I won't be able to fix it anytime soon due to a lack of funds. That's why I created a Patreon for those who can help me.

The subscription costs just $3 and gives access to my new story, which already has two chapters available here. On Patreon, it has four chapters, meaning there are two extra ones for supporters.

I'd like to make this story available there as well, but planning it takes a lot of work, and writing on my phone slows me down. So, for now, only the Spider-Man story will be on Patreon. If you can, check it out here, and if you like it and are able to support me, I'd be very grateful!

The whole class turned their heads upon hearing the voice, and a question crossed almost everyone's mind.

'Who is this man?!'

"It took four seconds for everyone to quiet down," the man said, standing up and unzipping the sleeping bag. "Time is limited. And you are not very rational."

"I'm Aizawa Shouta, the one in charge of this class. Nice to meet you," Aizawa continued in a tired voice.

'This guy is our teacher?!' Everyone thought at the same time.

"It may seem sudden, but everyone put this on and go to the courtyard," Aizawa said, placing his hand inside the sleeping bag and pulling out a blue uniform with white lines. "I'll be waiting."

***

"Aizawa..." Bakugo muttered, watching the man leave the classroom, dragging his sleeping bag as if it were an essential part of his uniform.

"I can't believe this is our teacher!" Kirishima exclaimed, to the right of Bakugo, with an expression that wavered between disbelief and fascination.

"Well, I was expecting someone more... presentable," Momo commented in a polite tone, adjusting her hair while casting a doubtful glance at the door.

"That guy is anything but presentable," Kyoka said from behind Momo, waving her hand in an exaggerated gesture.

"I agree," Kaminari, sitting at the desk behind Bakugo, joined the conversation. "For a minute, I thought he was a villain. I mean, who else shows up somewhere like that?"

Bakugo resisted the urge to yell at everyone to shut up, instead focusing on the girl bothering the boy sitting in front of him.

"Ne, can I sit here?" Uraraka asked Koda with a smile.

The boy froze, looking petrified that someone was talking to him.

"Pretty please?" She insisted, tilting her head slightly.

Koda couldn't take it anymore and quickly nodded his head.

"Thanks!"

Bakugo ran a hand over his face and rubbed his eyes. 'Poor guy...' Swallowing a long sigh, he stood up. "We better go. That guy doesn't seem like the most patient type."

Momo was the first to follow him. "I agree. It wouldn't be wise to keep our sensei waiting."

"Everyone!" Iida positioned himself in front of the class, his hands moving as if directing traffic. "Please exit in a coordinated and disciplined manner! We need to demonstrate organization and respect!"

Bakugo just rolled his eyes, letting out a "Tsk" before walking straight ahead, completely ignoring Iida's plea and Midoriya's shocked expression. Momo, Uraraka, and Kirishima followed closely behind.

"That guy is... pretty energetic," Uraraka murmured.

"Well, at least he's trying to keep things organized. That's an important quality," Momo said in an understanding tone. She then turned to Uraraka and extended her hand with a polite smile. "I don't think we've introduced ourselves yet. My name is Yaoyorozu Momo."

"Ah!" Uraraka quickly shook Momo's hand, returning the smile. "Uraraka Ochako. Nice to meet you!"

Kirishima took the opportunity to join the conversation. "Kirishima Eijiro. And that guy over there" he pointed at Bakugo, who was walking a few steps ahead "is Bakugo... but you already knew that, right?"

Uraraka let out a nervous laugh. "Yeah, we took the exam together. He was... pretty memorable."

"Ohhh, that makes sense," Kirishima said before asking, "Tell me, how impressive was he? Did he really destroy the zero pointer with a single hit?"

Bakugo partially turned, shooting a sharp glare at the group. "Don't talk about me like I'm not here!"

"Hehe, sorry, man," Kirishima replied with an embarrassed smile and quickened his pace to walk beside Bakugo.

"And if you have something to ask, just ask!"

"Got it!"

Meanwhile, further back, Momo tilted her head toward Uraraka. "Hmm... Uraraka-san, do you know why Kirishima-san seems so curious about Bakugo's performance?"

Uraraka, who had been watching the boys' interaction, blinked in surprise at the question. "What? You don't know?" She asked, her incredulous tone suggesting that Momo must have been living in another reality.

"No?"

"Bakugo-kun broke Endeavor's record."

"Seriously!?"

***

Finishing putting on his P.E. uniform, Bakugo cast a quick, discreet glance at the other students, letting out a quiet sigh of relief. 'Good... everything worked out. Class 1-A is the same as in the original timeline'

Based on that, Bakugo concluded that Nezu had formed the classes by considering quirks and personalities rather than ranking in the exam.

'Now... why are these two staring at me like that?' He wondered, feeling Todoroki's sharp gaze and Midoriya's suspicious look.

"-Hello! I am Iida Tenya. We were in the same battle center dur—"

Shifting his focus away from the two, Bakugo turned to Iida, who had approached him. "I know, I remember you," he said, cutting off the glasses-wearing boy.

Iida froze for a second, not expecting to be interrupted. "I see. I just wanted to say it's a pleasure to be in the same class as someone so strong." He bowed in a rigid motion. "I hope we can work together to become great heroes in the future!"

"Huh…" Bakugo felt like he was reaching his limit of self-control. "Sure, whatever you say."

Iida lifted his head after Bakugo's response, completely ignoring the visibly disinterested tone. "Excellent, Bakugo-kun!"

'I need a moment of silence,' Bakugo thought, walking out of the locker room.

***

"He said test?" Kaminari repeated, his face losing all color.

"I thought it was just going to be an exercise..." Uraraka murmured, feeling a knot in her stomach.

Iida raised his hand. "Sensei! What about the entrance ceremony!?"

"If you want to be heroes, you won't have time for ceremonies," Aizawa replied without even looking at Iida. "The highlight of U.A. is its school traditions. That's also how teachers manage their classes." He explained, turning to the students.

"You guys have been doing this since elementary school, right?" Aizawa raised his phone, showing a series of physical test results. "Physical tests where you can't use your quirks. The country still uses the average results of students who don't use quirks. It's not rational at all. The Ministry of Education is outdated."

'It's so boring having to hear all this again...'

"Bakugo."

"Hm?"

"At your previous school, how far could you throw a softball?"

"67 meters."

"Then, try it using your quirk." Aizawa tossed the softball to Bakugo, who caught it in midair.

"Good luck," Uraraka whispered as he passed by her.

'Tsk... Thanks, I guess,' Bakugo thought, shrugging as he walked toward the circle Aizawa indicated.

"Do it however you want, but stay inside the circle," Aizawa instructed, his eyes slightly wider, carefully observing the boy's every move. "Oh, and use your full strength."

'Not yet, Aizawa,' Bakugo thought, adjusting the ball in his hand. 'But I'll use this moment to show everyone.'

He raised his arm, bringing the ball behind his body. 'Watch me.'

The moment his arm began moving forward, Bakugo coated the ball with a layer of explosive sweat, adding a thin film of regular sweat to prevent it from detonating too soon. 'See how far I've come.'

As the motion reached its peak, Bakugo hurled the ball forward with a powerful explosion, incorporating a bit of his Cluster technique. 'Feel inferior.'

BOOOOOMMM!!!

The resulting shockwave lifted a curtain of dust and pushed back the students' hair and uniforms, leaving everyone stunned.

The ball shot through the air at high speed, quickly vanishing into the horizon. Bakugo kept his arm extended, eyes locked on the point where the ball had disappeared.

'And then, feel obligated to grow stronger.'

After a few seconds, he murmured, "Explode."

As if obeying his will, a series of smaller explosions occurred around the ball, propelling it even farther.

A minute later, Aizawa looked at the measuring device in his hand, which emitted a soft beep as it processed the data. He turned the screen toward the class, revealing the result: 5,042.3 meters.

For a few moments, the field was completely silent—some in awe, others intimidated.

"This is insane," Ojiro said, breaking the silence. "How am I supposed to compete with that?"

"Five thousand meters!" Sero exclaimed, pointing at Bakugo. "Dude, are you like a human missile or something?"

"That was super cool, Bakugo!" Kirishima shouted, excited by the display.

***

Further back in the group of students, Tsuyu Asui spoke to the boy beside her. "I didn't think anyone could throw a ball that far, kero…" She turned to Midoriya after he said nothing. "Midoriya-chan?"

The two had met during the practical exam, and Asui already considered him a friend, even if she found him a bit clumsy.

'When did Kacchan get this strong? I know he's light-years ahead of me, but this… it feels like he's not even giving it his all.' With trembling hands, Midoriya now understood how his childhood friend had surpassed Endeavor as a kid.

"Midoriya-chan?"

"Ah!" He quickly turned to her, looking embarrassed. "S-sorry, Asui-san, I was lost in thought."

"Call me Tsu," Asui said, tilting her head slightly. "What were you thinking about, kero?"

Midoriya averted his gaze, looking back at Bakugo, who was walking toward the group with his hands in his pockets and a confident posture. "Just… that Kacchan is much farther ahead than I thought."

"Kacchan?" Tsu asked, curious about the nickname.

***

'Amazing…' That seemed to be the only word Uraraka could think of whenever she saw Bakugo in action.

She bit her lower lip, trying to look away from the boy, but it was impossible. The sound of the explosion still echoed in her mind, along with the shockwave that had briefly sent her hair flying.

"This isn't just strength," Momo murmured reflexively, crossing her arms.

"Bakugo-san demonstrated a high level of control over his quirk… He didn't just use the explosion to throw the ball but also planned its trajectory to maximize distance."

She shifted her weight from one leg to the other, looking deeply analytical. "And from what I could hear, he added extra force with smaller explosions even after the ball was already far away."

Uraraka listened to Momo's words and nodded. 'Hearing this, Momo-san makes him sound so untouchable…' She clenched her fists. 'I need to push myself, or I'll fall even further behind!'

A similar thought crossed Momo's mind. 'I need to pick up my pace. I can't just rely on my intelligence and strategic skills.' She looked in the direction where Bakugo's ball had disappeared. 'I need to master my quirk the way Bakugo-san masters his.'

***

Aizawa sighed as the class finally quieted down. "This is the standard I expect. Now, you'll have to give your best not to be left behind. Oh, and for those of you who aren't motivated enough," he paused, letting the words sink in, "the student who places last in all eight tests will be expelled."

Silence fell over the field.

"…I knew it wouldn't be that simple," Midoriya murmured, swallowing hard. 'This is bad, really bad.'

"Expelled?!" Uraraka repeated indignantly. "That's unfair!"

"In the real world, injustice is a constant. It's up to heroes to reverse these situations. If you want to hang out at cafés with your friends after school, tough luck. For the next three years, U.A. will place obstacle after obstacle in your way." He paused briefly, his eyes scanning each face as if testing their determination. "Go beyond. Plus Ultra."

***

[1st Test: 50 Meter Dash.]

"Iida, Asui, you're up first," Aizawa announced, pointing to the track.

The two walked to their respective positions, and as they prepared, Momo noticed Uraraka looking uneasy. "Nervous, Uraraka-san?"

"Uh, yeah."

Momo offered a reassuring look. "Do you really think he's going to expel someone? It's clearly a bluff. Aizawa-sensei is just testing our determination."

[Ready... BAM!]

The sound of the starting gun echoed across the field, and within seconds, Iida crossed the finish line.

"3.4 seconds," Aizawa announced.

Right behind him came Tsuyu, finishing in 5.58 seconds.

As soon as the first round ended, Uraraka quickly turned to Momo, hope dancing in her eyes. "Do you really think so? That it's just a bluff?"

Momo gave him a gentle smile. "I'm sure of it." Her gaze then shifted to Bakugo, who was approaching them, visibly irritated. He seemed to have finally managed to escape the endless conversation with the pink-skinned girl.

Momo raised an eyebrow, deciding to include him in the conversation. "Do you agree with me, Bakugo-san? Don't you think Aizawa-sensei is just trying to push us?"

He scoffed, throwing a quick, disinterested glance at the two. "Why does it matter?"

"Uraraka-san is worried," Momo responded directly, making Uraraka feel her face heat up with embarrassment.

"I-it's not exactly that," Uraraka stammered, gesturing with her hands. "I mean, I'm a little nervous, but it's more about someone from our class getting expelled."

"Tsk." Bakugo averted his gaze as if pondering the issue before looking back at them. "I agree with Yaoyorozu. He just wants to see how we handle pressure."

Uraraka blinked in relief, but before she could say anything, Bakugo continued, "Even so, I don't get why you're so worried. You're strong."

"...I am?" Uraraka felt her heart race. No one besides her parents had ever described her as "strong."

Bakugo crossed his arms. "You passed the same exam as everyone here, didn't you? It wasn't luck. You made it because you have what it takes. If you doubt that, you're already starting off wrong."

Uraraka blinked a few times, processing his words. "Thank you, Bakugo-kun."

"Uraraka, Ojiro," Aizawa called the next two to the track.

Uraraka turned her head upon hearing her name. Taking a deep breath, she walked to the starting line with firm steps.

"Good luck," Ojiro said with a friendly smile, positioning himself beside her.

"You too." Uraraka tapped her clothes and shoes, removing their gravity.

[Ready... BAM!]

The two took off as soon as the machine gave the signal, Ojiro propelling himself with his tail and Uraraka running as fast as she could.

Ojiro was the first to cross the finish line with 5.49 seconds, followed closely by Uraraka, who finished in 6.30 seconds.

Uraraka quickly pressed her fingers together, releasing her Quirk. 'I was faster than I thought.' Her face lit up with a radiant smile.

"You did great," Ojiro praised, dusting off his tail. "Using your Quirk like that was smart."

"Thanks." Uraraka pressed her hands against her knees, trying to catch her breath. "You did great too."

"Aoyama, Ashido," Aizawa called the next pair.

***

"Congratulations, Uraraka-san," Momo said with a warm smile as soon as Uraraka rejoined the group.

"Thank you, Momo-san!" Uraraka responded, still breathless. Her eyes then discreetly flicked toward Bakugo, as if hoping he would say something too.

He noticed her gaze and let the silence drag on for a few seconds before sighing irritably and muttering, "You did what you had to do. Good job."

The compliment was short and even a bit dry, but for Uraraka, it was enough. A wide smile spread across her face. "Thank you, Bakugo-kun!"

He looked away, trying to hide his slightly uncomfortable expression. "Tsk, don't make a big deal out of it."

"Okay!"

Momo observed the interaction with interest, holding back a small laugh at the dynamic between the two.

***

Bakugo positioned himself at the starting line, practically feeling the nervousness of the boy beside him.

[Ready... BAM!]

The sound of the starting gun echoed, and Bakugo reacted instantly. With his hands aimed backward, he unleashed a powerful explosion.

'Explosive Speed!' he thought, propelling himself forward.

The finish line seemed to approach in an instant. As soon as he crossed it, Bakugo planted his feet into the ground, skidding several meters before finally coming to a stop.

"2.20 seconds," Aizawa announced, still in his monotone voice. "And 7.02 seconds for Midoriya," he added, looking at the boy who was crossing the line, exhausted.

"Haah... haah..." Midoriya leaned on his knees, trying to catch his breath.

"Pathetic," Bakugo muttered, his voice low enough to be heard only by the green-haired boy.

Midoriya lifted his head. "K-Kacchan—"

"You said you were going to keep up with me," Bakugo interrupted, turning slightly to face him. His red eyes glowed with a mix of disdain and challenge. "Is this all you've got? Even the invisible girl was faster than you."

Midoriya clenched his fists tightly. Bakugo's words hit him like a punch, but at the same time, they ignited a fire in his chest, overshadowing his fear of being expelled and disappointing All Might. 'I... I will prove to you that I can do this!'
