Chapter 6 - Before past:5

Blinking my eyes… Dark… Bright. This process goes on for about a minute before I hear a voice. A semi-gruff voice. I feel my surroundings I'm on a bed in a gown. I turn my head towards the direction of the voice.

"Hello, can you hear me?"

They pulls his hand in front of my face and picks up his fingers:

"How many fingers do you see?"

My vision a little blurry he's holding up a ridiculous amount of fingers up. Their hand looks like he holding up ten. Knowing that can't be true I answer randomly.

"Umm… Like three."

My voice isn't really convincing and it tells the person that I'm not even looking correctly or good.

"Ok, that's good at least you can see."

The person drops his hand down and picks something up. Vision slowly coming back I see what he was picking up is a clip-board with a paper attached to it.

"What do you last remember doing?"

I think back my memory is slowly coming back.

"I was in a parking lot, then I was in an interrogation room a white lady came in and… umm.. I got into a car and…"

In that moment everything came rushing into my head all at once from the set-up to the room to the car filling up with water. I jump off the bed onto the the floor. I flop almost immediately, I hit the ground hard a bang resonating around the room.

"Calm down, your safe, for now."

My vision now fully replaced, I see the person that has been talking to me the whole time has been a middle-aged doctor, bald and still with a clip board in hand barely even looking at me. Scanning around the room a little more it seems that I'm inside of a hospital room.

I grab the handle on the hospital bed slowly get up barely able to hold up my arms, excruciating pain coming from my elbows and hands every time I move it. Guiding myself unto the bed, another person comes in a girl, blonde hair, black eyes with a nurse outfit. She looking down at her phone tapping it before looking up and seeing me struggle.

"Oh my God!"

The nurse rushes to my side using her body as leverage for me to get up on the bed:

"Doctor Evans, your patient is struggling on the ground. He just got out of an accident involving water his brain probably didn't bring enough oxygen to his brain when he remembered!"

Slowly getting into the bed, I lay back down and slowly breath in through my nose, out through my mouth.

"Yes, I know, I just needed to see how much strength and determination he had before allowing him to be the test subject."

"Wait.. Sorry, a test subject for what?"

"You will be going to see what truly happened to a certain individual in the past."

"Wait… What does that even mean?"

Two more people come through the door. The woman from the room along with John, holding the door open for her to enter the room.

"Means you will go to the past, hence the machine I showed you in the interrogation room."

She wastes no time in letting the words slide through her lips. Not giving Doctor Evans, a chance.

"Well hello Rose. How have you been? Still looking beautiful I see."

Doctor Evans, finally takes his eyes off of the clipboard for the first time and turns around in his round rolling chair, locking eyes with her.

"Evans this surely has been a lovely time for the both you and Keith but I'm guessing he can leave now?"

The nurse jumps into the conversation:

"I'm sorry Ms. Rose, but he was just barely able to stand after falling off the bad a few seconds ago. So I don't want to say he's okay to go just yet."

Her voice is soft and whisper-like, as if she is five talking to her parents.

"Okay, Thia I'll allow him for two days here in the hospital. Though I do need to privately speak to him."

This nods and makes her way to the door that is still being held by John. Doctor doesn't move looks back at his clipboard smiling.

"I need to SPEAK to him privately."

Roses commands, as if telling Doctor Evans, get the f*ck out.

"Ohh, you meant all of us?"

The Doctor giggles like a school girl, after that witty, retort. Getting up off his chair.

"Okay, okay. I'm leaving."

He says walking out the door laughing. John exits and closes the door after Doctor Evans leaves the room.

"Why do you think you were chosen for the job of this experiment?"

Rose asked as if she forgot she told me why.

"Because… I have nothing to live for..? Right?"

"No, because I thought of someone when I saw you. Someone like your mother."

I widened my eyes giving off a look of surprise.

'Why would she say she knew my mother?'

My face still giving off curiosity.

"What do you know about my mother?"

I really wanted to know what she thought of my mother because she was nothing more that a b*tch.

"I knew she was brave."

"No she f*cking wasn't…"

I practically spat back to her face:

"She was nothing more than a b*tch that would come home from work early in the morning sleep till night and leave and leave at midnight. She always left me alone, till the night someone came to the house took everything and killed her. Honestly, she deserved it never once did she acknowledge me. I got into a spelling bee and won second place, she wasn't even at the spelling bee let alone congratulating me, I got into skateboarding did a cool trick but I had a lot of injuries coming back home. Did she even once check if I was ok, did she look at my bruises and wonder where I have been. NO! NO, SHE DIDNT!"

I yell the last part, holding in tear, hoping to not start crying. Roses face starts to burn looking like it gonna flare up. She starting to get angry.

"Oh yeah, then what is this does this look like the face of someone that wouldn't take care of her kid."

She reaches into her pocket pulling out a photograph and throwing it onto my stomach:

"She always took care of you. Never once leaving you alone!"

I look at the photograph. The picture has a young boy and two women which appear to be Rose and another girl. Surrounded by sand and smiling. Happily. Lovingly.

"Wait, Ms. Rose who are these people?"

"They are your mother and yourself, I'm in the background."

"That's not me or my mother."

The other girl in the photo is black with long beautiful black hair, wearing an outfit that looks like it's for the Sahara desert.

"Yes that's you when you were younger and your mother."

She starts getting confused, looking at me as if I'm not telling the truth, as if I'm the one going insane.

"Ms. Rose, my mother alway wore heavy makeup, she had short hair and never did she go to the desert. Most of all not ever with me."

In those few moments she gave me the most confused face she ever had that practically said then 'WHO ARE YOU!?'
