Laughter rings in the dining room, a rare and unfamiliar sound. I don't think I've ever heard my father laugh so heartily until today. In fact, I didn't even know he could laugh like that. The sight of it unsettles me.
I enter, silently wishing to get this over with. Eating together like a family, pretending everything is normal, is getting old. But at least there's good news—I won't have to spend the entire day here. I have an interview. Yayyy. I am secretly crying inside, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.
